Greystanes Aqueduct

A few weeks ago myself and my partner @xamine felt like some adventure, and after suggesting the Picton aqueducts he told me that there was another one, much closer to us.
I have a thing for bridges, and all aqueducts are just amazing😊

Greystanes aqueduct is hidden in suburbia and has been converted as part of a bike track now.

Fun facts -

• Built in 1888 as part of the Lower Prospect Canal
• Originally called the Boothtown Aqueduct
• 225 metres long
• Built from bricks
• 22 arches
• Each arch has a 9.1 metre span
• Decomissioned in 1907 by the construction of the Boothtown Syphon, concreted in to divert the water through the syphon instead
• Faced demolition in the 1990's but was saved by the community and later became part of the Western Sydney Cycle Network
• Is protected now by the Register of National Estate

It was a beautiful day for it, and the random graffitied tunnel next to it was pretty cool too, it had a date of '1908' on it, I'm guessing built just after the Boothtown syphon. You'd need to locate it on a map otherwise you'd drive right past it, it's well hidden (in plain sight😁) by bush but easy to get too, highly recommended!!
