Greetings to my friends, colleagues and members of this great platform(steemit),I welcome you all to my wall.I feel happy to have an opportunity to participate in this week's engagement challenge on this very important topic "security".The goal is to err my views and learn from others who are more knowledgeable because the issues of security cannot be known perfectly by an individual.
I'm really thankful to @chukwu10 for bringing me to this platform where knowledge is acquired freely.

✅WHAT I UNDERSTAND BY SECURITY?

In my own words, security can be said to be any thing consciously done by human in order to be secured, protected and free from harm or danger. Security entails a state of being intentionally free from dangers and attacks that may take life or cause damages. A secured person is a happy and fearless person. There are people known as security agencies, these people are specially charged with the responsibility of protecting lives, properties and environment.

These agencies include the police, army, navy, air force, local vigilantee groups which are locally known as Bakkasi in my town. The issue of security is not limited to only life or individual safety,it cut across all aspects of human existence.We put things that aims at securing our properties, businesses, loved ones, community or city and even the country at large.It is the adequate security measures we put that make us live a happy, fearless and fulfilled life.

Security at large is a very important thing that requires everyone irrespective of status to contribute to.As earlier stated, there are security agencies but we as civilians still have our own quota to contribute if we must achieve adequate security.We may not carry guns or arms but we can carefully provide necessary and relevant information to the security agencies which will help them to capture these agents of insecurity and bring them to book.

✅Ways in which the government of my country has been able to keep the citizens of my country safe.

Historically, the government which is an institution of the state is the body charged with the responsibility of protecting and safeguarding the lives of its citizens and the government of my country is not an exception. There are special security agencies which are charged with different duties all aiming at security of the country.

The government has provided the army which takes charge of the protection and security of the country from other countries of the world on land. There are also other trained officials which secures the country and it's borders on the sea and oceans against other nations. The air force takes care of attacks and insecurities that may come from the air. Outside this three mentioned above, the government has also provided the police commission which takes care of the internal security of the country and the different states that exist in it. The essence of all this security agencies is to ensure adequate protection of life and properties of the citizens.

Notwithstanding, the above security agencies mentioned are provided by the federal government. then at the state level and local level, there are ones provided by the different communities or villages which also helps in protection of lives in the rural areas. In some areas we have the Bakkasi, the community policing, the youths organisations etc.These groups are provided and recognized by the local government. In some cases, the government provide arms for them and take care of their needs.

Most of the activities of these security agencies tends to be unproductive when we fail to corporate with them.We may not bear arms with them but we can provide necessary information that can help them capture the criminals. Most of us know this criminals but doesn't report them to the appropriate agencies. However, we keep blaming the government when we don't also perform our duties as civilians.

✅ WHAT I PERSONALLY DO FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY FOR US TO BE SAFE.

I as an individual is a very security conscious personality. I don't joke with anything that needs not to be joked with. I and my family doesn't keep late night, anywhere we must go to must be within the day time because Night is dangerous.

We do not keep bad Company, friends or colleagues. Some people might be innocent and secure but due to the kinds of friends they keep, they tends to expose themselves to danger. Keeping bad people doesn't only expose one to danger but it also damages one's reputation because a popular adage has it as "show me your friend and I will tell you who you are".

What could be the fate of an Innocent person who stays with a cultist and there happens to be a clash of power between his group and other cult groups? Peoples we stay with also determine how secure we can be.We live in a secure environment where security agencies are many and functional.

✅Have you heard of or experience any case of rubbery or kidnapping in your country?

The cases of robbery, killings, kidnapping and all sorts of insecurity is evident in my country.Here, the government keeps trying their best to curtail insecurity but the rate of the menace keeps increasing.Just last week, a stray bullet killed a student of my school when different cult groups clashed.

This is why we must be very careful in anywhere we are at any point in time.Last year before I left home for school, this issue of insecurity increased in my town beyond measure,bad boys used to hang on every road, collect people's phones and other valuables of which failure to obey attracts death.I thank the government for coming to our rescue.we lived in fear, peoples were kidnapped and killed while some pay huge ransom to regain their freedom.

Going out in the night then was like suicide mission, people began to pack out from my town and most businesses folded. The problem wasn't an easy one but I thank God for helping the present government retain orderliness in my area.Insecurity may not have been killed but we have succeeded in bringing it to the minimal level and thus happy.

✅Ways in which I think is the best to keep our families safe.

Security at the grassroots is the most important aspect of security,we must strive to keep ourselves safe after which the government can play their own role.Below are some of the things we must do in order to keep ourselves safe.

• We must live in a house well built with iron protectors.

• We should strive to live in places with security.some places are insecurity scenes and such environment shouldn't be an option when looking for accommodation.

• We must be careful of people we associate with.Some persons we see as friends are friendly - enemies.Some are notorious criminals.The more we stay close to them, the more we jeopardize our security.

• We should also know the kinds of public gatherings we must attend.Our family must not attend all public gatherings.No one can tell who is who.

• We should avoid late night movements.our schedules should be properly planned.

• Finally,we must be prayerful to our God.We must acknowledge "God factor" in everything we do.Whether Christians, Muslims,Hindu or traditional worshipper.If we pray to the God we serve,I know that he will come and manifest himself and help us all.
