Introducing #MountainMonday

in #mountainmonday6 years ago

Hey folks, here's a new challenge for you: #MountainMonday, hosted by me, @keithboone.

The hashtag has been used on Steemit before but I can't find anything in the last six months... so I claim no ownership of this, but I'm going to run with it for a while and see if there is any interest.

(Question: does anyone actually own a hashtag? If there is any conflict here, just let me know, I don't want to step on anyone's toes.)

I'm starting out with the best mountain we can see from Victoria, BC. This is Mount Baker, Washington, and it's about 70 miles east of here. In this shot you can see Alpenglow, the subtle lighting that occurs around sunset. The sun has already set in Victoria, and on the lower portions of Mt. Baker, but the top of the mountain is still catching some rays. In the middle distance, directly across the water is San Juan Island.

I'll tell you right now, in Victoria, this is our mountain. We've stolen it. I don't care that it's in another country. It appears in a zillion photos in and around Victoria - usually shot with a long lens like in my first shot. In reality it doesn't look that big. It's much closer to the second shot which is just slightly zoomed in from what the unaided eye sees.

Golf in December in Victoria. We like to look at our mountain while playing.

To the people and the state of Washington: I feel bad about stealing your mountain. I'd really like to make it up to you... I propose in return we give you Mt. Washington, BC - which is right here on Vancouver Island. It's an awesome mountain, it has a fantastic ski resort. You guys will love it, and it's already named for you! So... are we cool? (The only reason I propose this trade is you can't actually see Mt. Washington from here, so you know... who cares!)

If you have a photo, poem, story or anything else to share relating to mountains, feel free to drop a link to a post in the comments and I'll try to pay a visit. My upvote is worth close to nothing, but resteems don't cost a dime! :) Use the tag #mountainmonday and tag me @keithboone

Happy #MountainMonday friends, hope to see you!

Oh. I love this! There are no mountains in my neck of the woods, but I have taken photos of a few in my travels. And of course I always love looking at oth people's mountains! I'll find something to enter! Resteemed to get the word out!

Thank you Melinda! Hey, I've got time for your shadow contest, right? I was just shooting some duo-shadows... :)

Plenty of time! You have until Thursday morning to post them!

Coming right up... :)

Awesome tag @keithboone!! 🌄
We got some of those there mountains :-)
Had seen this tag months ago when looking and
thinking of using it, but it wasn't kept up
with it looked like.
I'm glad you are climbing the #mountainmonday
and leading the trail for us to follow, such wonderful
views! Beautiful photos, love ''your'' mountain! :-)

Awesome, thanks a lot! :)

Awesome photography @keithboone, I like BC for lakes and mountains.

Thanks very much! Just so you understand, 90% of what you see in these shots is in Washington, it's pretty much only me that claims to have annexed the mountain into BC! :)

That first shot is epic. Who cares if it's zoomed in. It's still stunning. :-)
I'm off to the Lake District soon and will get some mountain shots for your new'ish hashtag. lol
I don't think hashtags belong to anyone.

Thank you very much, and I look forward to those photos! I know nobody can actually own a hashtag, but I was concerned that something might be happening with it that I wasn't finding... Like I said, didn't want to step on any toes :)

That is great and thank you for entering! I've already upvoted and resteemed it :)

I used to be able to see 2 mountains from the flat I lived in in Seattle and I'm trying to remember which ones. I don't think it was Mount Baker.

Perhaps Mount Hood and Mount Ranier. 😊

I like all three of your photographs @keithboone. They capture the views beautifully.

That sounds right @gillianpearce. Ranier for sure, Hood I'm not sure. We can see the tip of Ranier from here under perfect conditions. I've taken photos. I just checked the distance and it's 214 km/ 132 miles. Oh, and thank you! :)

Good Gracious !! That first photo is amazing.

Thank you so much! BTW, I should have mentioned... those are Mallard Ducks flying across the bottom. Some people have thought they were Geese, but I was able to zoom in close and check :)

Ducks and not Geeeese ??? Well ! That makes a big difference in how I feel about that photo now.

ok... it doesn't. 😄

Haha, gives it a different scale or something! I dunno... :)

That's great Melinda, thanks a million for entering :)

Hello
I will look for one of my mountains for you
Happy day

Oh, thank you! That would be awesome :)

Marvellous mountain images @keithboone There are very few mountains in the vicinity of where I live and have next to nothing in my files of mountains........as such. More like noticeable hills. So I wish you a fun challenge and will enjoy viewing oher peoles photos intil I stumble upon a mountain of my own. (lol)

Thanks so much, Trudee! We'll take a hill anytime, no worries :)

Cool! I'll find my microscope and see if I can find some 'hills.'.........Do ant hills qualify @keithboone???????????

Maybe you could make it a macro shot :)

That's a good idea Keith.......or maybe I can build a mountain out of sand and sprinkle it with icing sugar to make it look like snow! I'll come up with a mountain/hill/sandcastle one way or another.
