Photos of some rescue dogs over the years

in #dogs2 years ago

Our only purpose for existing is to try our best to improve the quality of live for mostly dogs, but also cats and other animals in the Krabi region in southern Thailand. All of our rescues are of equal importance but here are some of the one that we grew a little bit closer to than others.

It is always quite tragic when a young pup has lived all of their short lives in suffering and unfortunately that is exactly what ends up happening to a majority of the stay animal population not just here in Krabi, but globally. Normally when we get a puppy that needs care, they are very stand-offish of us because they have either never had human interaction, or they have had an abusive relationship with bipeds in that they are always kicked by people or have things thrown at them by humans. This little pup warmed up to us in less than a day once it realized that we meant it no harm. A little bit of food goes a long way in establishing this relationship.

Sometimes these neglected puppies are so unaccustomed to having access to food, let alone an abundance of it, that they don't really know what to do when presented with the situation. They'll lie down on top of it while they are eating it or even fall asleep mid chomp.

I ended up nicknaming this little guy "winky" because he had some sort of nervous tick where he would get so excited if you got close to his kennel that he would close on of his eyes and wink at you. We don't keep animals in cages unless we absolutely must but because of his size and broken leg, we had to keep him separated from the other animals.

This pup never got to come with us because it was being looked after (poorly) by the local community. It was one of many dogs in the area that we only had enough funds at the time to provide them with food. This was during the nationwide lockdown that prevented tourists from coming in and adoptions were at an all time low. This pup stood out from the bunch because it was the most friendly in the neighborhood. The other dogs would keep their distance or even bark at us, but this one was too young to see us as a threat and would always run up to us.

While not a great photo, this picture encapsulates the enduring nature of dogs. Even with one of the legs removed, you can see that this dog has its tail a waggin' anytime that someone gets near it. This continued for a long period of time and the dog captured all of our hearts. I can't imagine being so happy all the time if I suddenly found myself with one of my limbs gone but that is exactly how dogs are. They don't dwell on the past and simply live in the moment.

These photos are just a few of the thousands of dogs we have helped over the years and even though times have been difficult for us because of mostly financial reasons, we have done, and will continue to do the most we possibly can for all of the furry friends of Krabi. Our hope is to eventually reduce the suffering to the point where it almost doesn't exist.
