What Recent Steemit Changes Mean For YOUR CURATION REWARDS
Recently there were changes to our reputation numbers in addition to our interface of our blog, The follow button.
Wow I'm overwhelmed. I took a much needed break from Steemit, I've been struggling to sleep. I took a 2 hour nap, Woke up and was at first, Horrified when I saw that my reputation number was just a 66.
Before I was an 8, So the "6" scared me
After checking my ranking in comparison to everyone else on http://steemwhales.com/

I realized I'm in very goods standing and I have nothing to worry about.
But now we have a follow button that actually works, and we have a new menu bar.
What does this mean for Steemit?
What does this mean for our rewards?
So now we can follow our friends, And have a feed for our friends! I really like that. It gives it more functionality similar to Twitter or Facebook.
But I also have mixed feelings on it. Here are some of my thoughts/
Pros of the new layout
- We can interact with our favorite people, Indulge in the quality stuff they post.
- We can ACTUALLY follow people.
- Similar to other social networking sites, I feel like newbies will be less intimidated.
- It added some nice color to the site, The site was so plain before, I like the extra color. It's fun.
- I feel like our curation rewards will GO UP! In the long term, as the same people can see and upvote our posts.
Cons of the new layout
- We will get less votes from random people. Because people will be less likely to venture off into the newer posts. Where their could be spam and bad content.
- Our curation rewards will be hurt in the short term. Because people will be focused on their feeds and may not look for other content.
- It's different, And humans LOVE to reject different LOL.
What is your opinion of the new changes?
The New Reputation Score
I got to admit, I miss my pretty "8"
But I do like the new reputation score. Because if you check http://steemwhales.com/
It's much more specific. It has numbers such as 55.1, 55.2
I feel like it gives us a chance to monitor our own progress for the long term. The numbers are more understandable. now.
Does this mean we can eventually go to 100 with our reputation score? Or will it go up to 1000 or more?
Normally I"m not an early adopter of things, So Steemit has been a completely new experience for me, and I absolutely love it. I can't wait to see what this website has in store for us. In the long term.
Good post... I'm really unclear what moves the reputation in either direction? Can you help to clear some of that confusion up?

Very clearly written, Kaylin! As usual! ;) I agree that people will focus on their feed. And they won't discover new stuff as much as now. That's true. Anyway, your energy will not allow you to escape from the eyes of Steemians ;)

I'm still waiting on an explanation for the new scores for reputation.
And I'm with you, I think curation rewards will go up now, because people I know that consistently put up good content is now in one place.
I don't know all the details but it has a lot to do with the upvotes that you receive I hope that they go up that would make me very happy :) I feel like lately mine have been down.
I have the same thoughts on the "feeds" limiting exposure to good content and without the intention to explore or find new/different authors the community will develop myopia.
true! I wonder how this will affect us in the long run, I somewhat feel that my curation rewards have been down since the change happened.
Before 3rd party tools gave the follow button its functionality. Sites like steemwatch and steemstats are still used to monitor different indicators of the steemit experience. The cryptocurrency ride is a wild one, doesn't matter if you're into bitcoin or steemit. Haven't had more fun than I've had doing crypto stuff.
hehe thats good! I knew about some of the third party tools, But not all! I love that there are so many people that are that brilliant and they have been building those tools! And the fact that they share them for everyone to use is pretty amazing!
I find the fact more interesting, that every bit of information is public. Blockchain doesn't forget anything and keeps way more information about yourself than you could ever remember. It keeps everything you publish and distributes rewards for your work. Like you don't even need to work hard, since 90% of all rewards are distributed among everyone.
I love and hate that! i feel like privacy may be an issue later on, Even though we are freely sharing our lives.

@kaylinart is it weird that I miss my "6" and feel like my new "48" is a lower. 6 of 10 is better than 48 of 100....regardless of what the scale actually is that is how my mind is registering it!!! Hahaha.
And I agree on the random curation going down as I found myself looking first to the folks I follow (you included) as opposed to aimlessly wandering the tags.

I was pleasantly surprised of the reputation changes, I was ranked 900th on steemwhales with the first ones, now it went down to 60 but my total rank was 170th.
I also happened to notice that I was 39th on number of posts, and there were many (which I guess are bots) with negative rating in front of me. I should maybe also take a little break from Steemit now and then, haha. :P

I worked so hard the past few weeks to go from a 5 to a 6...and then I woke up and was at 50. AHHH! LOL I did a comparison too and it's not shabby - but dang hahah
I know I'm new so I know nothing about everything, but even though I've got a growing list of people I follow, I try to see what's new, what's active and eye-spy some new folks along with familiar faces. It works for me :)
