5 Tips to Improve Your Productivity
"We are all given the same hours in a day, it is how we use them that makes all the difference." ~ Katie Walker
No matter what you do, who you are, or where you work, we all want to be more efficient with our time. Time is precious and all too often we find ourselves asking, “Where did the time go?” Being more productive won’t just help in the workplace, it also frees up more time in your personal life for you to do the things you truly love. Here are 5 tips on how to be more productive so you can spend more time living the life you love.
1. Use your morning to focus on you
Instead of reaching for your phone right when you open your eyes in the morning to check your email, social media, texts, etc., use your mornings to focus on yourself. Productive and positive morning rituals will dramatically change your life.
These rituals can be writing down your intention for the day, taking a walk, doing some stretches, meditating, eating a healthy breakfast, writing down three things you are grateful for, and sipping from your Mindful Mug as you focus on your mindful mantra for the day, just to name a few. This will start your day off on a positive note with the right mindset to get you ready for a productive day.
2. Schedule when you check your email
Checking your email throughout the day is a major buzzkill for your productivity. Schedule time slots for when you will check your email and refrain from checking it outside of the designated time. Remember to turn off email notifications to help with the urge of immediately responding.
3. Track your social media use
If you want to be more productive, take back control over your social media use. We have all been guilty of throwing hours of our day away to social media. We’ll open the app to check our notifications one minute and next thing we know, we just spent the last 45 minutes swiping through our news feed.
Scheduling time slots for when and how much time we spend on social media will give hours back to our day. Hours that we can spend being more productive. Hours that we can spend doing what we love with who we love. I recommend turning off all push notifications and moving your social media icons from your phone’s home page to one that isn’t as easily accessible.
If you are feeling extra ambitious, I challenge you to unplug for a week. Get off social media all together for one week. Delete the apps to help with the temptation.
Do you dare?
4. Schedule your to-do list
That’s right. Plan ahead and attach times to your to-do list. We’ve all heard “plan your day before you start your day,” and that is because it truly makes a difference!
Write out your schedule for the following day the night before. Doing this will free up more time in the morning to focus on yourself. Assigning time slots for each item, will start your day off with an efficient plan of action and will streamline your productivity.
5. Take more Breaks
I know you want to slay away and get as much done as you can today, but small breaks throughout the course of your day will improve your productivity. When you get that pain in your head and those voices saying “Enough!”, listen to them.
Take a walk, eat a snack, or simply sit and meditate for a few minutes. You’ll be amazed by the difference taking more breaks will have on your productivity.
Following these 5 tips will help you be more productive throughout your day and enable you to spend more time doing what you love with who you love. What are some habits you find helpful for being a more productive person? Share them in the comments below.
