Nyarlathotep... again
I began another attempt at the Godly character from the pulp-poet H.P. Lovecrafts oeuvre, yesterday. (The first one can be seen here: https://steemit.com/art/@katharsisdrill/nyarlathotep). I am not at all sure how to depict him?!

Nyarlathotep, in my opinion, is not about physical horror, no need for teeth, tentacles, eyes, maws, etc. It's about the eerie feeling you get when something bigger than you casts its shadow upon you. Something that was always in your mind, but you deliberately avoided it because the results of its revelation would be catastrophic.
Nyarlathotep is like a prophet, awakening people to the truth of the Great Old Ones and their own insignificance. He is a preacher of the unspeakable. Stripping humans of their pride and self-esteem, he can manipulate them and leads them to decadence, with nothing to hope for, no salvation.
When in a cityscape, there should be no lights, electricity is long gone in the reign of Nyarlathotep, no-one needs light, it does not take away the shadows and our fears. Bonfires may be there, but with the purpose of destruction and chaos -- although I believe things should be passive and neutral. His figure, while human-like, would have the proportions slightly wrong, light would bounce off his shape or illuminate in wrong hues, maybe perspective is distorted around him. His pharaonic aspect (the Black Pharaoh) should be prominent, indeed; leopards and other animals might lick his hands.
ok ok I got carried away -- but you asked!
Many very good points! When I re-read the short text I noticed that I was not really aware of where in time it was until there was a mention of the subway. So I just took a Thirties New York skyline with Empire State Building towering over the other towers in the back. But I think you are right. The magic of Nyarlathotep is not of this world, not static electric - and his surroundings is probably just as important as the figure itself.
That is pretty interesting... Has a 30's comic vibe. i like it :)
A very dark soul, but interesting :)
Keep doing itr mate nice work. Maybe Marvel will make a movie on that. Why not create a comic episode with that. We would love that. Upvoted
