Abdul AlhazredsteemCreated with Sketch.

Yesterday evening I tried some noncommittal cross hatching, and made this image of the fictional mad poet Abdul Alhazred - invented by the pulp-writer H.P.Lovecraft.

You can read about him here: Abdul Alhazred

So amazing, a pot smoking Abdul writing the Necronomicon!hahaha. I love that he is lefthanded also:) upvoted and followed to be updated, keep up the good work:)

You have a good eye for details. I did consider which hand he should write with, and decided to go for the stereotypical wrong hand :)

I am lefthanded so it was easy to spot:) I think you ve made a good choise, left hand was always the evil one in religion and people old beliefs.

Dexter & Sinister: this is actually a fascinating cultural & historical topic that has more interest than you would first imagine.

Thank you very much @neuromancer (great book btw) i am very interested in symbolism and i really enjoyed this article:)

Then you should read Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, you will love that. Very much.

He has a different but equally powerful Nam-Shub to Gibson's.

i will keep it in mind, thank you very much for the suggestion:)

This is pure win. Wonderful expression on his face, just beyond some people i know :D

Oh, I noticed you tagged Krita! Great software. I switched over from Gimp last year.

Yes, Krita is my main tool and has been for 3-4 years. It's a great program. Sadly they suffered from a tax-bill the other day, but the community has stood up and supported them.

Yes they sound much happier now. So am I. It just shows how much the community value the work that has gone into their tool. You know, I think it might even give old PS and Corel Painter a good thrashing, if not already.

I was concerned that the development might grind to a halt. It has made amazing progress since V3.0.

Poor old Gimp takes for ever to develop, but Krita just seems to leap ahead.

That's some fine piece of art there!
Just realized after looking at it for the third time,
that there are two additional circles between the five eyes.
Are these the true eyes
or do they form the nose?

This fictional character has quite a deep background.
The perception of Abdul Alhazred to the 'normal' people is somewhat sad.
He was seen as a mad man,
for having talked about things,
that no one would have ever wanted to encounter
or find out.

Ignorance gives the sane man his sanity.

The tired eyes am not necessarily its main eyes but it was the first ones i drew :)

The idea that madness is really a heightened awareness of reality is not invented by Lovecraft but it is so very much at the core of his work that it almost define his strange mythos. A bit like Philip K. Dick.

Congratulations, amazing illustration, it's like a manga-baldor mix :P

Very cool :) I like it :)

Great piece. I would like to have a puff of that J he is smoking too :) I bet it is great stuff :D Thank you for sharing ;)

I guess it is pretty heavy stuff in that joint :)

More please!

More H.P Lovecraft please \m/

Any idea which mythos person it should be then?

What about... Nyarlathotep in his Black Pharaoh guise?? Very nice work, and details: the Sacred Heart, the sketch of the summoned monster in the book, and of course the joint!

Nyarlathotep is probably going to feature in my next Lovecraftian drawing of Keziah Mason.

Dreams in the Witch-House, that is a golden story full of ideas to draw on. It is said that Nyarlathotep, in his Black Man of the Woods guise, had intercourse with Keziah in order to let her bring her rat-thing familiar into the world, as her nightmarish offspring. I'll be waiting for that post!

Haha, now all I can think of is that hideous act :) maybe I have to make more of the dear Keziah...

interesting work, I love using adobe products and will now follow you to see what you are up to
