Independent cinema in Brooklyn
I slept just four hours this night - I was partially busy and partially forgot that this night we set our clocks one hour forward due to daylight savings time, and partially because I had to wake up early enough to get ready for a brunch at Nitehawk - a nice, cozy independent cinema located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which along with great movies serves food while you watch. It was my second time there - first time I watched "I, Tonya", which was a great watch too. I didn't feel tired at all though, mostly because the day was so nice and sunny, and I spent it all outdoors. Hope to have more weekends like this.
One of three posters I got today to cover my white walls with something personal.
The highlight of the cinema was that as I was starving by the time we arrived there, printed the tickets and entered, I soon got the possibility of eating something delicious. Some of the positions on their menu is related to the movie you are watching. They also have vegan and gluten free options, so I'm a little disappointed with myself that yet again I went for eggs benedict with tater tots, however, these were really good and worth it, and will be my last, because I'm ready to take better care of myself.
At the cinema, you are encouraged to order food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages, throughout the entire movie, which is pretty cool. The waiters and waitresses stay constantly alert to see if you stick a piece of paper with your order in a designated area of your coffee table.
Coffee, eggs benedict with tater tots and my friend's burger
The show was commenced with a 20-minute jazz concert. I love jazz, so it was an extreme pleasure for my ears, however, I wish I had more knowledge on it, so my goal is to get more exposed to jazz music while in New York City. We had a funny conversation with my friend:
-- What instrument is that big one?
-- It's a trombone.
-- Damn, I always wanted to play the trombone!
Funny enough, it was not a trombone. It was a really sexy helicon.
The movie, "Beasts of the Southern Wild", made us cry. It was a story of a six-year-old girl from the area of the Mississipi delta, living with her father, who suffered from an illness she did not fully understand. She knew however that he was going to die and leave her completely alone. She was well aware of the secrets of death as her father prepared her to take care of herself as an independent, strong and self-sufficient woman, and so, at the age of six, Hushpuppy, as such was her name, was capable of catching fish with her bare hands, knock them out and eat them, take care of their herd of farm animals, crack open a still-alive crab and suck its insides out to stay satiated.
I highly recommend that you watch this movie. It gave me a little food for thought on the topic of death and being acquainted with the idea of it.
My ego confuses my heart - a bench in Brooklyn.
What made me happy was that I took the time to do grocery shopping and now I have 5 lunches for the week in the fridge and freezer. I had coffee with friends too and found someone who was moving out of their apartment and selling a bookcase that I needed. Sadly, 'not too heavy' was a big surprise to me when expectations met reality. After carrying it downstairs I ordered an XL cab and... it didn't fit. I was lucky that the driver didn't kick me out but drove me home with the door open, and at the end gave me a white rose as means of consolation that I had to carry it up the stairs by myself again. Unexpected workout.
Speaking of workouts, I found a yoga practice I want to join, which I'm going to do as soon as tomorrow and do it 4-5 times per week as I used to do. My mental and physical balance is around the corner, so I'm really excited.
Sweet poster!
Yea I forgot about the theft of an hour of sleep also! It’s crazy to me we as a culture still practice daylight savings, all it does is mess things up.
"Beasts of the Southern Wild" is a great film.
Love the low angle compositions and the realism/abstract balance.
My thoughts exactly! It reminded me of how I saw the world at the age of 3-5, and that particle of childlikeness in the storytelling. Thanks for dropping by!
