Russia Blocks UN Attempts North Korea Missile Test
Russia filed an objection to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to condemn North Korea's latest missile launch (North Korea). Russia objected because the condemnation statements compiled by the United States (US) call it an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
The UNSC Statement must be agreed by all 15 members. It is unclear whether the US will continue to negotiate with Russia in an effort to reach consensus on a sentence statement.
Moscow says it believes Pyongyang relinquished mid-range ballistic missiles on Tuesday, while China has not yet identified the rocket launch. North Korea itself says it is testing an ICBM and the US says it may be true.
