Farhat review - a lot of choice at a fractional price
The second last stop we made om Saturday was for dinner. Driving on the highway, it becomes difficult to find a clean place, specially if it is an old highway in India. We had a kid traveling with us so we couldn't have stopped at an old run down place, or an eating place next to the highway. Luckily, we crossed the city of Ahmednagar on the way and could stop at Farhat, primarily a hotel but we headed to its vegetarian restaurant.
The best part was that the restaurant also had open seating. Weather was quite nice so we decided to sit in the open.
This is how the seating was inside.
As you can see, there was a lot of seating space available so waiting time was 0. The place was also quite clean.
There was a street food area as well. The menu had a lot of choice -
We ordered a gew different things from the menu. We ordered Cream of Mushroom soup, Spinach soup, a south indian crepe called Masala Dosa and Pao Bhaji. We also got a bell pepper and cheese toast, vegetable noodles and a local dish called Masala Rice.
The spinach soup was better than the mushroom but both were actually good. There was enough mushroom in the soup and it was quite creamy.
The cheese bell pepper toast was just average, There was very little bell pepper on it and the cheese on it was quite lame.
The masala dosa was ok. The potato mix inside the crepe was mildly spicy. The outer part was super crisp and I really liked it. The lentil curry with it wasn't sweet. I would have liked it if the crepe was a little more brown and cooked evenly.
Next thing was Pao Bhaju. Pao Bhaji and Wada pao are the very definition of Maharashtrian street food. I'm sure people can make a spectacular pao bhaji here with their eyes closed.
The pao bhaji was beautifully tangy and it was rich but not too buttery to make you overflow with guilt.
The vegetable noodles were quite ok, nothing exceptional about them. Masala Rice is another local dish and I love it. This one had less vegetables and also, no curry was served with it.
All that food cost us just INR 750, or $10. The quantity was plenty in all dishes we ordered. The staff and manager were very nice and welcoming. I'll go with 3.5 for the place and food, on a scale of 1 to 5, 5 being best. This is a good pitstop if you're travelling between Shani Shgnapur and Mumbai.
