Starting seeds for the Preschool
If you have been following me for a long time, you might remember that I help out occasionally as the science teacher at a friend's preschool.
Last year, we had so much fun with the seeds I started that they decided to plant a garden this year! The fun part was I started Scarlet Runner Beans and they grew like crazy. I had started them really early and they exploded out of the container so I repotted them in a big container and built a trellis. In the end, they were following a string across the ceiling and they did get the scarlet flowers and one bean.
This year, I hung onto them a little too long. I wanted to make sure all of the seeds sprouted before I gave it to the preschool and there was one stubborn one that refused to sprout. I eventually hauled it out. As seeds get older, germination rates decline.
Once again, I planted some right side up and some upside down to demonstrate that the seedlings still figure out up and down. I wonder how many of these kiddies will go home and try to say, "geotropism." lol
Scarlet Runner Beans are nice big seeds so you can see exactly what is going on. I wonder how many of these children will become gardeners?

Cool post!!
I had a series of them last year and there were photos from when I went to transplant them and build the trellis.
You never know what seeds you plant 😉
