Peacock at the Toronto Zoo
As I approached, he hopped onto the wall and I thought I would get a better photo of him, but it turns out he didn't want one taken and he stubbornly stared upwards until my patience wore out.
Although we tend to use the word 'peacock' to describe both the male and female, it's only correct for the males. The species is the Indian peafowl (Pavo christatus) and the name for the female is peahen. The chicks are peachicks.
Only the male has the large train of feathers. Every year at molting time, he loses those feathers and regrows them again in less than 6 months. He was an intimidating bird. I didn't want to get closer.
From Wikipedia...
Peacocks are a larger sized bird with a length from bill to tail of 100 to 115 cm (39 to 45 in) and to the end of a fully grown train as much as 195 to 225 cm (77 to 89 in) and weigh 4–6 kg (8.8–13.2 lb).

Anyway, your photos are right!
They are beautiful.
I also like peacocks. I have never heard their voices, although I have seen them at the zoo and park many times!
I could not see the white peacock, as he was hiding all the time!
People in BC are not happy with peacocks....lol

You have your priorities right. lol
Hey Suze, why don't you do a poll...whether we call ourselves
Steemates, Steemians, Steemers, or Steemites??
I don't know how to, or I would, plus you have more
followers.
I think it's been done and Steemians won. Are you saying there is a way to do polls?
Really noisy creatures! There are some feral ones in my neighbourhood
There is an article in the comments here about that. Some poor man had 40 gathering on his roof!
They are so beautiful. We used to have peacocks and also had a white one. They are noisy but I like the noise, it kind of sounds prehistoric.
