A Visting Sphinx Moth
This moth spent yesterday on my patio door screen. It had probably just emerged from the pupa in which it spent the winter. I identified it as belonging to the Sphingidae family, often called a "sphinx," "hawk," or "hummingbird" for their ability to hover in front of flowers and sip nectar through an extended proboscis.
Now which Sphinx Moth? Maybe the Abbott's?
This moth's pupa spends the winter in dried leaves, a good reason not to clean up your garden too early in the spring.
Many thanks to @whatisnew for #butterflyday.

It's a little bigger than most of the moths we see too.
Cool looks like a healthy specimen i found a orangy brown one on my door once as well i have a few pics of it somewhere. Their wing shape reminds me of some kind of military aircraft.
