"I'm horrified": Bitcoin Core developer said about SegWit2xsteemCreated with Sketch.

in #bitcoin9 years ago

The developer of Bitcoin Core and creator of Viacoin, with pseudonym BTCDrak, does not approve attempts to integrate SegWit2x into the Bitcoin Core code repository.

In a message sent through the bitcoin-dev mailing list, he directed criticism against this controversial escalation proposal, whose deadline, on August 1, is getting closer every day.

I am horrified by this proposal both technically and ethically, and by the process that it has adopted. In order to carry out a hard fork, a consensus of the whole ecosystem is needed in order to prevent a split, lose funds, cause confusion and damage the robust guarantees that the Bitcoin system has demonstrated up to now ".

BTCDrak harshly attacked the developers of SegWit2x for rushing to implement the proposal that, according to him, fostered centralization:

If so much is said about the importance of "alternative implementations", how is it that this rough and unbridled action promotes an ecosystem of multiple implementations? By encouraging rapid updates, they are actually helping to centralize the ecosystem further. "

He also compared this process with BIP141 -the original SegWit-, stating that it has a higher level of detail and therefore results in more test and confidence tests. It is offensive, he says, to treat a system with a market capitalization of $ 40 billion, as indefinitely as the proponents of SegWit2x have done.

BTCDrak concludes his message by accusing supporters of employing coercive tactics to impose their plans on the entire Bitcoin community:

I can not support this proposal in its current form and following these dates, nor do I support the coercion that, behind closed doors, has been used to try to gain more support (not limited to, but including, contact investors of the companies to twist the arm, and issue surreptitious threats to leave companies outside financing and collaborations).

Warns that the plan will not succeed:

I think the best thing that you can hope for is that this proposal of hard fork is silently ignored.

Other opponents to SegWit2x within Core

BTCDrak is not the first developer of Core that has opened fire in the "Bitcoin Civil War". Luke-Jr recently wrote a blog post where he analyzes and denounces SegWit2x. In particular, he criticized this hard fork proposal for including an 8MB block limit - "unhealthy," he says - while at the same time obfuscating the code to make it look like 2MB.

Luke-Jr concluded that the design of SegWit2x serves the purpose of "delaying SegWit" and "distracting from the arrival of the soft fork of BIP148, which is already deployed irreversibly to the network". However, he clarifies that he does not believe that all SegWit2x supporters have this nefarious purpose in mind.
