Information about the Great Himalayan National Park.

Great Himalayan National Park is a famous park located in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. This park has recently been included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. It is also known as the Jawaharlal Nehru Great Himalayan Park. This national park is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna species, with more than 30 mammals and more than 300 species of birds.

There are many types of medicinal plants, mammals, birds, and fauna species found in the Great Himalayan National Park. The park spreads 90,540 hectares. Area of ​​754.4 sq. Km of the park is in the core zone, 265.6 square kilometers in the eco zone and 61 sq km of pilgrimage Wildlife Sanctuary and 90 km area area in Sanj Sanctuary. The park is spread over 1,171 sq km area.

This beautiful park is full of biodiversity among the snow-covered mountains. It has more than 25 types of forests, 800 types of plants and more than 300 species of bird. Hundreds of rare animals shelf Brown bears, ibex, black bears, musk deer, snow leopards are found. Also more than 12 types of snakes are found.

This is especially known for the Western Traogown, the forest of the park of the highly endangered species of birds. The vegetation of this park includes canopy forest, oak forest, alpine shrubs, sub alpine communities, and Alpine grass. There are other species of vegetation seen in the Bairabaris, Indigophera, Sarkokoa and the Viburnum region. The park is home to many flower species, which can be used for fragrant and medicinal properties.

About 25 species of Dangerous Plants are found in this park in the Red List of International Nature Conservation Association (IUCN). The Great Himalayan National Park conservation area includes Sainj and Tirthan river and water origin of the Parvati river flowing towards north-west.

This park is more beautiful between September and November. At this time the animals found in the area begin to migrate. During this time, blue bears, lizards living in the snow, brown bears and musk deer found in the Himalayan region can be easily seen.

This park, built in 1984, was declared a National Park in 1999. In 2010, Sainj and Tirthan Wildlife Sanctuary were also included in the Great Himalayan National Park. In March 2012, UNESCO nominated the Great Himalayan National Park for it. In 2014, the UNESCO World Heritage Team has stamped this National Park.
