Bergenia is an undemanding but beautiful plant, which is a common ornament of Hungarian gardens. It has thick, waxy leaves and bright pink flowers, blooming from early spring. Also known as pigsqueak (due to the sound produced when two leaves are rubbed together), elephant's ears (due to the shape of the leaves) and large rockfoil.
