Don't touch my meat

in #blog8 years ago

I love Australia. Me and my husband visited Australia many times. We like to camp overthere. So we always hire a fourwheel drive with a rooftoptent and have a lot of fun. So close to nature, far away from the crowds. The less people, the better

During these holidays,we don't use a watch at all. We wake up at sunrise and go to sleep when it is dark. At home, I don't like to wake up early, but during these holidays it is a pleasant, because the sound of the birds. What a great sound.
There was always one particular sound, the laughter. So funny and so happy.
I did not know the name of this bird, untill someone told me, it was a kookaburra, a kingfisher.

How hard we even try, we never spotted one. We only hear him laughing.
Untill that day on our campsite in Airlie Beach. We we having a nice barbecue with a good Australian wine. Suddenly, there he was, the kookabuura, so close. We were so excited and took our camera. He posed for
us, so we could take some could pictures. Unfortunately, he was not laughing.

Suddenly, we realized why he did not laugh. He was huntig for food. He took a run to our table, grabbed the meat from my plate, and flew away, leaving my plate empty. What a stupid bird. He was still not laughing, because of the food in his mouth.
I was very angry, because I am a meat lover, so don't touch my meat. ( I have the same rule with wine)

Now I am reading at wikipedia, kookaburras are almost carnivorous, so now I understand.

I still love the sound of the kookaburra, but I never want to see him again.

I prefer food, more than birds.
