Stumbling Blocks for Non-Americans?
One thing that stands out to me is the idea that individuals try to simplify what every human being goes through and experiences. This stands out to me because often when we express how individuals think or what they believe, we are acting as a representative, yet not every person agrees with another. Also, I find it interesting that the author said humans assume that all people are the same people. This can be seen as a stumbling block, especially for immigrants because their experience of life and way of thinking is not similar to people of another area. I feel like each person has their own idea of equality and to base humans on their similarities only is a mistake.
I think it is interesting that cultural upbringings determine the way people react to different experiences. This is someone from one culture may value death to be celebrative, whereas another culture finds mourning to be the only way to cope with loss.
