Selective attention

Generally we tend to believe that attention is one however, the psychological and even cognitive process of a person or animal reveals that it is something complex and in order not to divert everything that it implies, it is organized into various types however, the one that most tends to be applied is the call: Selective attention.

The type of selective attention is also known as focused and is nothing more than the ability we have to direct our visual focus and mental stimulus on something specific. In some cases this focus is good because it allows us to stay focused on achieving a goal, however, in certain circumstances it has happened that by focusing so much our attention on a specific point, we ignore other elements that may be important.

If there is something that I have confirmed with this type of care is that, the first thing we must do is maintain control of our attention; that is, selective attention can help us when acquiring learning, carrying out a project and even training our memory so that it does not have problems and this is because it allows us to speed up our actions when we are in a demanding circumstance since we are focused on what concerns us.

Now, selective attention is an action that is commanded directly in the mind and when this happens, all our senses begin the process to focus all attention on what we are doing or thinking about it, if our goal is to make a dream come true, taking advantage of the fact that our brain has already focused attention on it, let's not allow some external distraction to take us away from it because if we do, we will automatically be saboteurs of our own longings.

On the other hand, selective attention can also be interpreted as a process that is responsible for discarding and then selecting all our stimuli because, when we have sufficient maturity or mental concentration, we can eliminate thoughts and even attitudes that do not add positive points in our progress and directly or indirectly, the mind is a filter that through the stimuli we are giving it; recognizes the good or bad for us.

According to the above, it is necessary to note that, although the mind is responsible for orienting us towards what is functional or not for our projects, the reality is that in the end it is we who have the last word and it is from this when we can know if we are actually correctly applying selective attention.

Keep in mind that, our mind is the one who emits all our emotions and attentions but, we are in charge of acting when we consider that it is the right time for it, if we want to properly use our selective attention, it is necessary to ensure that this is only to achieve our evolution as people because if we use it to keep us focused on things or circumstances that do not add up, we would be wasting excellent skill.

Similarly, although it is a quality that we all apparently have naturally, the reality behind it is that, it does not always happen in this way because, just as some people manage to spontaneously develop selective attention, others must learn it and in several cases it may be related to wanting to cover several things at the same time or failing that, not wanting to acquire the commitments that come with focusing our attention on something.

To conclude, the key when moving forward despite maintaining our selective attention lies in: having versatility, either to have control of the mind and consciousness because the input will always be present when selecting where our attention will be limiting again that, when we are focused, we can achieve great things.
