My story for the day is anchored on the peculiar circumstances of my society, an individual has to work extra hard to survive, and of course the place of providence has to be kept in view as a major factor. It is in the light of this that this literary work was produced.

David did not have a singular opportunity of setting his eyes on any of his parents. His father lost his life in an automobile accident six months to the birth of the young lad. Bertha the widow on her own part died during child birth, ostensibly due to complications. Fortunately, the child David was delivered safely. He was given out to a Motherless Babies home so that he could be given a proper care. His paternal family did not show concern, even on his safe arrival, talkless, following up the survival and subsequent growth of the young man. David's father was the only child of his parents who kicked the bucket at the peek of the Ebola pandemic.

The attention of the members of David's family was focused on his property and how it would be shared among themselves. They did not reckon with the fact that David would have a surviving offspring. It is instructive to note these people, though aware the child survived at the demise of the mother, he would have been given out on adoption to needy families. It was only the family of Bertha, his late mother that took turns to see how the poor boy was fared in his new home - Ekwemmadu Motherless Babies Home in the capital city. Though sparingly done, since they were of the belief that David belonged to the family of his father, hence should take upper hand in this exercise, but it was a different ball game with the Motherless Babies Home.

The authorities of the Motherless Babies spared nothing to take proper care of David along side other inmates. At the age of four years, he was enrolled into one of the best DayCare/ Nursery Schools in town. on completion, he was sent to the nearby University Staff School. David was not among the babies given out on adoption to various homesteads on the approval of the government, under the supervision of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development ( Welfare Division). While in the University Staff School, David shone like a million stars, always coming tops in his class. His brilliance was replicated in the tertiary institution as well. When the result of the University Entrance examination was released, he was among the outstanding students.

His brilliant performances was given impetus by the calibre of experienced and highly motivated tutors at their disposal. What is more, Lude Community University could boast as one of the best equipped in Library, Computer Laboratory among other top notch materials needed to enhance effective teaching and learning in the entire region.
While this was the situation, David's family members at home had allowed greed and avarice to cloud their conscience. They were at the throath of one another on who gets a lion share of the property left behind. At a point, the protagonists exchanged hot blows over a parcel of land situated at the entrance to the city centre which the late Bethram purchased from an industrialist who was forced by court order to pay back a loan he took from one of the new generation Banks in the region.
Meanwhile David recently completed his secondary school education, and sequel to his excellent result he made in the University Matriculation Examination, he was offered a scholarship to read law in one of the leading tertiary institutions in the region.

What would be the fate of David as he moves to the Ivory Tower? Also, there is the need to reflect on the likely reaction of both the paternal and maternal families, as well as the wider community. His fellow inmates, with whom he had forged a credible companionship while his stay there lasted. Subsequent write up will give answer to that.
