Silifke Castle and Sunset | Turkey
Hello everyone. Today, I caught a very beautiful view while walking and I wanted to share it with you.
Silifke is a town dominated by many different civilizations in history. You can find ruins of all these civilizations. Silifke Castle, Aya Tekla church, Jupiter Temple, Asthma Cave and many other places I have not mentioned...
The castle was built the highest hill in the town. You can see the Silifke Castle from almost anywhere in the town center. Famous traveler and author Evliya Çelebi wrote in his book Seyahatname that the Silifke Castle consists of 23 bastions and there are nearly 60 houses. But today, only 10 of those 23 signs are intact.
There are secret rooms under the castle. There are cellars and water tanks 5 meters underground of the castle. According to the people who live here, there is a secret passage from under the castle to another hill in the city.(To the hill where Aya Tekla Church is located) However, this is an urban legend. This castle, which is estimated to belong to the Hellenistic or Early Roman period, has lost the characteristics of its period after some restorations.
If you are a fan of historical places, I strongly recommend you to come to Silifke/Turkey. :)
Thank you for reading.
