Stop throwing these food parts away
You might not know this, but there are a lot of fruits and vegetables parts that are a lot healthier than you might think and you usually throw them away. Instead of wasting good, healthy food, learn what’s good for you and how to use it.
Many of us throw away apple skin, but it actually contains an antioxidant that’s very good for your lungs and brain and it can protect you from cancer. Besides that, apple skin contains a lot more fiber and vitamins than the apple itself.
Chard, also known as Swiss beet, is a plant similar to spinach, which is known for it’s high content of minerals and vitamin A. But not only the leaves are edible. The roots of this plant contain an amino acid called glutamine that helps your body regenerate. You can slice the root and use it along with the leaves.
Nobody eats the skin of oranges, because it’s a little bitter. But nutritionists say that the skin can play a big part in lowering your cholesterol level, and it’s even more efficient than medication. But don’t worry, you won’t have to chew the skin. You just have to grate it and use it in your recipes. It tastes really good in some cakes, and you can also use it in meat recipes.
Red beet is currently used just for it’s root, but it used to be cultivated for it’s leaves. And that’s understandable, because the leaves contain a lot of fiber, calcium, iron, and vitamins A and K.
Lastly, one of the most preferred foods of all times, potatoes. We all love them, they’re easy to cook, they taste really good and we can use them in almost every recipe. But we always throw away the skin.
The thing is, the skin is full of fiber, vitamin B and C, calcium and many others. There are not a lot of recipes in which you can use it, but you can eat the skin when you cook the potatoes in the oven.

Eating a healthy, balanced diet plays an essential role in maintaining a healthy weight, which is an important part of overall good health.
Being overweight or obese can lead to health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, certain cancers, heart disease and stroke. Being underweight could also affect your health.
Check whether you're a healthy weight by using our Healthy weight calculator.
Most adults need to lose weight, and need to eat fewer calories to do this. If you're trying to lose weight, aim to eat less and be more active. Eating a healthy, balanced diet will help: aim to cut down on foods that are high in saturated fat and sugar, and eat plenty of fruit and vegetables.
Don't forget that alcohol is also high in calories, so cutting down can help you to control your weight.
Physical activity can help you to maintain weight loss or be a healthy weight. Being active doesn't have to mean hours at the gym: you can find ways to fit more activity into your daily life. For example, try getting off the bus one stop early on the way home from work, and walking.
Being physically active may help reduce the risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. For more ideas, see Get active your way.
After getting active, remember not to reward yourself with a treat that is high in energy. If you feel hungry after activity, choose foods or drinks that are lower in calories, but still filling.
If you're underweight, see our page on underweight adults. If you're worried about your weight, ask your GP or a dietitian for advice.

There are a lot of preserves and chemical being sprayed on these fruits. Thus right now it is better to avoid eating the skins of fruit. Even if someone wants to eat then they should eat only after washing the fruits that they are eating.
I have heard that in some parts of the world a layer of wax is being put on the apples to make them shine and preserve.

Ask yourself the following questions. If you answer yes to any of them, talk to your doctor about your health. You may need to improve your eating habits for better nutrition.
