My First Pay Check in 2004 看图说话 – 在英国打工的第一张收入支票

I first came to UK at 2004, as a full time student. My parents spent almost their entire savings to pay for the expensive university tuition fee etc. 

My first part-time job was working in a potato factory, putting the  potatoes in the box. I was working non-stop doing the repeated job on the assembly line - get the potatoes, put in the box, for like 3 hours.

And, the pay was 14.55 pounds (4.85 pounds per hour), There was an admin fee 3 pounds because I didn't provide correctly the bank details and they could only issue me a cheque, which was 11.55 pounds total.

I was so happy because that WAS my FIRST job in UK, I called my parents and shared them with this. It was not even enough going to a nice restaurant, but I still remember the excitement and the happiness since then.

Now, I was settled in UK, and have a lovely wife, two kids. And this experience has been always a happy memory, which reminds me of those days. :)

2004 年 9 月份 我第一次踏上英国,12月份, 我在 Luton 的中介一条街找到了一份临时工, 这个中介叫 BusiBody 意思就是说身体很忙,不难理解到那里的工作都是短暂的体力活, 甚至没有合同,什么时候有时间,什么时候就安排你去干. 

 所以一般都会有人排除领号去打工,中介会有一车接到工厂(开车1小时左右), 穿上鞋套,换上工作服(那里都有提供),便来到地下室的工厂流水线.我要做的就是把流水线上的土豆装在身边的小盒子里,然后放到一边的箱子里.重复的动作,第二天手臂就酸了. 

 刚开始的新手都手忙脚乱,然后就来不及装,但是都会有人耐心过来教你方法.有人就边工作边带着耳机,听音乐或者打电话.

 我就去了一次.很累,很不适应,工作三个小时后有休息,然后可能表现不好吧, 就没有继续到第二个轮班,有一批人就在楼上的咔啡厅等待其他工友完成第二轮班之后一起坐安排的车回去. 

 由于填错了银行帐号,导致无法收到款,于是中介写了张支票,扣了手续费 3 镑,11.55 的收入.当时一小时时薪4.85 (当时英国政府规定的最低时薪), 当时 2004 年汇率还是 1比15 已经不错了. 11.55英镑 可以让我去超市买一周吃的食物. 

第一次在英国收到工资,虽然很少, 但是很兴奋,意义非凡,后来中餐厅,酒巴,大学的工作都没有让我有这么激动的感觉.
