A Little Help During Marawi Seige

in #life7 years ago

Volunteering has never been one of the things that I give importance to. I am not the person who voluntarily raises hand to help those people who are in need. It’s not that I don’t have a heart to help but it’s just I don’t have enough time due to busy student schedule. This DSWD Volunteering program for encoding the list of evacuees from Marawi City has opened my heart that it is an overwhelming feeling to help victims in a very simple way.

Encoding the names of the maranao victims has been a challenge for me since their names are out of my world, literally. I will admit that it is hard because I am a slow encoder compared to the other volunteers. Reading maranao’s survey sheet helped me understood maybe a little part on what kind of life they have been living. How they manage to have a huge family, how they give name to their offspring, what are their jobs and even on how much they earn as monthly income.

I am always been thinking and asking myself why back then I have no willingness to help casualties. I just realized lately it is because I have never felt how difficult it is to be a victim of misunderstanding of the government and certain group of people that wanted to be heard, even with occurrence of natural disasters.

Now, if given a chance again, I will open my door and start embracing to help people even in a very simple way that I could offer.

Thank You for Stopping by!
