A Cycling Tour of Paramaribo, Suriname 🚴 Clevia to Welgelegen 🏙️
▶️ Watch on 3Speak
Greetings, I finally cycled across the breadth of Paramaribo and captured it all with my new GoPro handlebar mount.
Cycling around a city is always a good way to see the local people and surrounding, and although cycling in Paramaribo is not very convenient or common, it's still a good way to take in the sights and sounds. On this trip I cycled from our apartment in Clevia to a friend's house in Welgelegen, a journey just under 20 kilometers.
Note that we're in the midst of a Code Purple Lockdown here, so traffic is actually much more congested that it would normally be during a weekday like this. There are less than a million people in the whole country of Suriname, and Paramaribo is easily much smaller than just about any favela in Latin America.
The lack of a sizeable population and many vacant homes and businesses gives the city a very rural feel, and I think you'll notice that in the video. The signs of the economic crisis/depression are very evident in this video, but somehow the majority of this country have still managed to avoid downgrading to mainly bicycle and motorbike transport like you'd see in many Southeast Asian or African countries.
🙏 GIVE THANKS 🙏 |
