Steemit Engagement Challenge S8-W3 | Elections in my Country.
It's another great opportunity given to us to talk and react to a Democratic system of government in our country. This is a privilege given to us and i thank the organizers of this contest. I will also invite @josepha, @ruthjoe, @cherrypine, and @talktofaith to also give their opinion concerning elections in their country.
Elections in my country has always held in 4/8 years (General Elections). On the 25th of February 2023, the Presidential and National Assembly election was held and today being the 18th day of March 2023, the Governorship elections and state House of Assembly is held.
This is to exercise or franchise and vote ☑️ our choice of leaders who we feel can represent us well in office. The essence of elections is to vote someone into power who will represent us well but because power is too sweet, when they are voted in, they won't remember again and wouldn't like to step down. Follow me closely as we deal with the various topics of this contest about elections in my country.
👉🏾What do you think about Elections in your country:
Elections in my country has always been a thing of shame and tears to the common man. This is because whenever its time for elections, the big boys (Politicians) will come down to the grassroots to make sure they mobilize the youth who will help them is carrying out campaigns during the election periods.
Since it's a multi-party system, brothers/sisters will like to join parties of their choices and this will bring crisis among them. This is what is going on in Nigeria my country. The elections might look as if it's free and fair but behind, its been manipulated. The youth will involve in killing themselves for just no cause while the politicians are there enjoying with their families abroad.
The most painful is when INEC will announce the winner as it pleases their heart due to the bribe they have gain from one of the contestants. This has made me not to even think of casting my votes anymore because i feel it doesn't count.
👉🏾What do you think about the electoral system in your country?
The electoral system is a process where the masses votes for candidates they wish to represent them in office. Here rules and standards are been set to make this a success. However, before the election proper, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will involve qualified citizens who should help the commission in carrying out the success of the election.
All the rules will be made known to the applicants during the 3 days lessons before the election proper. For further information about the training, visit this link below:

I discovered that even with all this lesson, those rules are not been respected during election as we see party's agents going round the polling units to do their campaign during elections.
👉🏾How is it done in your country?
There are always specific dates set by INEC for elections to take place in the country. Note, INEC is an independent body on its own free from external control. INEC sets the dates, different political parties carry out campaigns to deliver their candidates. At the election day, INEC officials brings down their materials down to different polling units and voters are allowed to cast their votes and at the end of the election, the officials (PO, APO1, APO2 & APO3) will join in doing the sorting for each political parties as voted by the masses. At the end of the sorting/Counting, the result will be announced and the agents will be ask to sign the result form which will be transmitted or uploaded to net.
👉🏾Is it transparent and fair in your country..
Since we operate a open ballot system of voting, i can say the system is transparent but lack fairness and equity. This is because Nigeria my country is full of bribery and corruption. This corruption is what the incumbent President says he want to fight but in his word; Change starts from you.
He has the mine of changing Nigeria from corruption but the change we want to see must first of all starts from you (each person). This statement look common but very important because if the head changed while the grassroots remain unchanged, of what effect will it brings to the society? That is why the slogan is "change starts from you".
Right now the masses are still suffering because of the current change of money which is still affecting the country but today we are still selling our votes ☑️ for just #1,000 voting for some who is not our choice of candidate. The reason for this is because even when the masses voted their choice of candidate during the presidential election, our choice wasn't count. 👉🏾Assume there's no fairness and effectiveness as far as elections are concerned, what solutions can you propose to ensure its being carried out the right way
I will like Nigeria to implement a system where we all can seat at home and cast our vote ☑️ using our smartphone, cyber cafe etc as far as you can have access to the Internet. This should not just be in a day but should be given 3 days for citizens to cast their votes.
The saver should be well built and free from human manipulations and all votes cast for different political parties should be made public in the sever for the masses to see and know the leading candidates. At the end of the 3 days, the server should remain public that everyone can access and see who wins the different seats as the Independent National Electoral Commission will now proceed to the server and get the results and make it official by calling the winners. Note, this must tally with what is obtainable in the server.
In conclusion, i believe if we can achieve this stage in life, we can now say our election is transparent and fair. I'm pleased to mention @steem4nigeria to look into this and my possible solutions to elections in our country. Thank you for your time.

You have made a well detailed article here. I also agree with the point of making the server public. If the votes are going to the server outrightly and everyone is watching at the same time, it is transparent enough to avoided rigging.

Dear friend, you have saif it all. it is worrisome that our electioneering process has continued in this trajectory. A process that has been marred with high level irregularities. We expected much this time from the presidential elections, just when it was over, the transmission result process was hijacked and hence made a mess of the entire process.
It is only obvious that what we need is a full scale electronic system of voting. Where accreditation, verification, voting and transmission is void of human interference.

Just like in your country, election in my country is also a thing of shame and tears, it is quite a pity, i truly hope that things get better as pertain electoral practice across countries.

Your explanation of the APO1 and POs makes you sound like a one-time INEC ad-hoc staff (Corp member), I remember when my friend was an APO.
The truth is, theoretically, our electoral process would have been cool but in reality, it is nothing to write about seeing that electoral misconduct is deep in the soul of politicians and is regarded as part of the political game in the country.
Hopefully, we will have a free and fair election in the near future.
