Which Steem Monsters Summoner do you rate the most?

in #steemmonsters6 years ago (edited)

Given every Steem Monsters Team will need to include a Summoner, choosing the right one will be crucial to your success when the battles begin.

And apparently, in the Beta release, there will more to Summoners released, but for now we just have 6 Summoners to choose from.

So which Steem Monsters Summoner will you choose?

Of course, your decision might be based on the Monsters you want to play but some Summoners are more powerful than others so building decks around them might be a smarter move.

Anyway, here are my thoughts on each Steem Monsters Summoner from Weakest to Strongest.

Lyanna Natura

Mana - 3
Team Power-up - All friendly Monsters get +1 health

Lyanna currently has the worst Team Power-up of all the summoners. To be honest +1 health is barely going to make a difference to your team in high-level battles and this power-up only happens once at the start of the battle.

If you want to play green then consider using Selenia as you'll get a better team bonus especially if you like ranged attack monsters.

Tyrus Paladium

Mana - 3
Team Power-up - All friendly monsters have +1 Armor

Although protecting your team with extra armor might seem like a BOSS move, this ability only happens once at the start of a battle, and high-level monsters will carve through +1 Armour fairly easily.

On the plus side monsters that don't have armor will be gifted +1 Armour so that could mean they survive one more turn. And in a pinch could be the difference between winning and losing.

Malric Inferno

Mana - 3
Team Power-up - All friendly monsters get +1 Melee Attack and +1 Speed

On the surface, there doesn't seem like much of a difference between Malric and Zintar but +1 Melee Attack isn't as good as -1 Attack for the lower tiers.

But what makes Malric more powerful than the previous Summoners is both Team Power-ups are in play every turn of a battle. Which essentially means you'll get more bang for your buck each turn and those enemy monsters will be turned to dust in no time.

Also, a +1 speed bonus is also a great power-up as it essentially gives your monsters a chance to strike first, and potentially kill them before they even get a chance to do any damage.

Zintar Mortaus

Mana - 3
Team Power-up - All enemy monsters get -1 Melee Attack and -1 Speed

Similar to Malric, Zintar's Team Powerups, are in effect every turn and will add up over time. And Zintar is great for low tier battles as some monsters only have +1 Attack which essentially means they'll be attacking with a '0' Attack strength and you know how that'll turn out.

Also, giving your enemy a '-1' speed penalty essentially gives your monsters more chance to attack first.

Alric Stormbringer

Mana - 2
Team Power-up - All friendly magic attack monsters get +1 Magic Attack

Yes, I rate Alric higher than Zintar (leave your hate in the comments below :-P) The main reason is the low mana cost of Alric compared to the rest.

Yes, having an extra mana point to spend on a more powerful monster, is a game changer, IMHO.

And quite frankly magic is the most powerful attack ability as you can attack from any position on the battlefield.

Selenia Sky

Mana - 2
Team Power-up - All friendly ranged attack monsters get +1 Range Attack

Although a +1 Ranged attack keeps on giving for the duration of the battle, ranged attack monsters are crap at melee attacks so you'll want a couple of decent tanks in positions 1 and 2 if you're taking advantage of Selenia's Ranged attack power-up.

But Selenia's real power is being able to add a dragon to your chosen splinter.

A tank that flys - yes please. But only the Lightning Dragon will take advantage of Selenia's ranged attack bonus for now. However, there are plenty of other decent ranged attack monsters to choose from.

So these are my thoughts for the various Steem Monsters Summoners currently available in the Alpha release, but I wouldn't automatically play Selenia Sky just because you can play a dragon. She needs to be part of a well thought out strategy because Ranged Attack isn't as useful as a Magic Attack. Period.

As always, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

And let the battles begin...

Nice post.... Got me opening a window to check out my blue cards now lol.

The blue summoner is good but unfortunately isn't backed up with a wealth of magic attack monsters just yet.

Of the Alpha Edition cards, I'd say my favourite Summoner  is definitely Alric Stormbringer. However, the lower Mana  cost needs to be offset by the fact that you'll also need to spend at least another 4x  Mana, and realistically up to 10x  Mana, (bringing the total to 12x  Mana  with Alric included before you start adding any other Monsters), if you're going to take advantage of that +1  Magic Attack  bonus, by automatically adding either/both of the Mischievous Mermaid and/or the Medusa. They're like a package deal — there's no point having the bonus without at least one of these to apply the bonus to, right? In a standard 20x  Mana  battle, this leaves only 8x  Mana  minimum (and up to 12  depending on which of the Magic Attack  Monsters you choose), to spend on your tank and other support Team members. The Frost Giant alone is worth 8x  Mana, so in theory you could have an Azmarian  Team that looks something like this...

That's a fairly solid team but you could also drop the Medusa and use the Crustacean King as additional health recovery for the tank and he also has a ranged attack in later lvls.
Unfortunately, there aren't too many magic attack cards for this splinter but this might change in the future, one would hope.

Hmm, interesting concept, replacing the Medusa for the Crustacean King. Thing is, that would leave me with one spare Mana  left over. I guess being under by one is better than being over by one, haha.

Yes, and I've been trying to figure this one out. @aggroed said at one stage that he's trying to base the Abilities on likely real-life examples. So what type of ranged attack could a crab do in real life? That tail looks like it could flick sand in someone's face, but that's about all I can think of, haha.

Well, let's see if leaving 1 mana on the table makes a huge difference. When the battles are up I'll challenge your team with mine and see who comes out on top :-D
And we could wager a Crustacean King if you like. Best of three battles :-D

Haha, love it! Thank you, that is the first challenge I have received in SteemMonsters! I accept, and I will gladly sacrifice a Regular Foil  Alpha Edition Crustacean King card to you if you can beat my lineup with yours in a "best out of three" wager.

One thing though, I don't know yet how the team selection works (and I presume that nobody else does yet, either), so I'm wondering if we can even have this battle, being that we would both be raising a Team each from the Azmarian  Splinter. Is it even possible for both of us to use the same Splinter in a single battle? Who knows?

I find it tough to separate Alric and Malric. Alric is probably the more potent, but Malric just looks so damn cool. I would also need to do a bit of analysis on the actual monsters in each of their splinters to give a definitive answer.

Then there's Tyrus. You just know he was picked on as a kid.

Yeah if I liked the magic monsters more Alric would definitely be my favourite, but I'm a beat down kinda guy. So Malric and Zintar will probably be in my team more often.
