The Failed Marriage: Why I Remained Single

in #esteem6 years ago

I was betrothed to a young and wealthy man. He was so rich and his influence spreads like fragrance. I lacked nothing as he ensured I got everything. We were not married yet but we were an item, everyone knew about us and we were the talk of the town. The ladies respected me at the market and everyone wanted to be nice to me. Who wouldn’t want to be nice to me?
I love the respect and prestige I got from everyone and my beloved spared no time in introducing me to his friends. Indeed, I was a beauty to behold, fair and highly intelligent.

Soon, it was the birthday of my beloved, the king and everyone was present. He was so preoccupied with friends that he paid me no attention whatsoever. I was pissed. Why wouldn’t he introduce me to his friends? Why would he pay me no attention? Is he the only one who has ever celebrated birthday. For seven days, he threw this party to celebrate his friend and he made no mention of me at all. He didn’t even care that I existed. He spent his nights drinking and laughing with his friends and I was not invited once. Did he forget how beautiful and influential I was?

On the last day of the party which was the 7th day, while I was relaxing in my room and have accepted my fate, I got news from his servants, “The King seeks your presence at once.” Who was he to order me around? And why send servants to fetch me? When did I become a slave?. “Tell him to come fetch me himself”. I replied angrily. I knew he was gonna come begging and kneeling before me soon. I smiled at this thought. The servants left and never returned. I got up from the bed and adorned myself with jewelleries and makeup, waiting for my beloved to come fetch me.

Night came but I kept my doors open, anticipating his arrival as always. I sat upon my bed with excitement and opened my eyes to see another day. I stood up, looked around, searching for my beloved but everywhere seemed the way it was the night before. No one had come in. I washed off the heavy makeup and paced the room with anger. “How dare he keeps me waiting?”. I wanted to storm his mansion but decided to keep calm and let him come beg me himself. I refused going to his place and maintained my stance even when I was advised to go see him.

I waited each day for my beloved to come kneeling before me but he never did. I decided to go to the market on the fourth day and I was disdained at how people treated me without respect. The market seller even raised her voice at me. What absurdity? How dare she? I stormed my beloved’s place to announce my disdain and disapproval but was denied access into the gate. “What’s wrong with you guys?”, I yelled. “Open the gates to me”, I commanded but they didn’t budge. I tried to force myself in but they shuued me away. I felt disrespected and wanted causing a scene when I saw my beloved arrive.

Tell these things to open the gate for me, I yelled. He looked at me, smiled and said, “Sorry dear, your place has been taken” and out came a very beautiful lady adorned with nice jewelleries and apparels. He ordered the gates to be shut against me and I shouldn’t dare come close to him because he found a new queen who loves and respects him and one who isn’t filled with pride. I walked back in shame, feeling dejected and hurt.

I’m sure a lot of people already know who I am, my name is Vashti, the number one Proud lady from the Pride community. This is my story and I let Juliet Israel tell it to you.
A lot of people have lost their places due to pride and arrogance, They have been robbed of what should originally be theirs because they gave PRIDE a place and today, they are out of place.

Sort:

Pride is a good sense of self worth but if not check mate could lead to undue arrogance and an eventual fall.
Pride manifest itself in diverse ways in relationships:
Pride is when you feel superior to others at every give time
Pride is when you feel other are to small to correct you.
Pride is when you talk back at every uttered words just for the purpose of talking others down
Pride is when you feel that without you, your lover can do nothing.
Pride has only three persons in the whole world: me, myself and I
