Is it true that for you to be a successful leader you must first learn how to be a servant and possess the abilities of a servant? Is it really necessary ?

I think what that means is that you must be able to serve the people.

A leader is one who is ready and willing to serve people.

A leader is not someone who sits across a big chair, with legs crossed and give orders.

A leader is someone who not only tells you what to do, but someone who shows you (by doing) what to do.

A leader is someone who carries on a task with you and not only orders you around.

There are times it won't be easy. There are times that there would be rift between the people, and it would only take the quality of a leader to resolve the issue.
