WHY IS ABSTINENCE FROM SIN NECESSARY?

All forms of sin by whatever name or magnitude are a manifestation of disobedience to God. The next thing to note about sin is that it is a choice. This is easily inferred from our lead scripture for today. It was a demonstration of mans choice at work when Adam and Eve ate from the fruit of the tree they had been previously forbidden. Did Satan tempt eve? Yes, but he never forced the fruit down her throat;it was her choice to eat it. Again, eve did not force the fruit down the throat of her husband ; he also chose to eat it.

Here is an important lesson: whereas someone is free to exercise his or right to choose a cause of action, no one is free to determine the consequences of his actions. Every choice has a predetermined consequence.
In our world sexual sin is becoming a problem we have to deal with. I would be telling us some of the reasons why we should abstain from sexual sin.

1. Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit- 1 Corinthians
   6 Vs19
2. That the bed should remain undefiled- Hebrew 13 Vs 4
3. People who indulge in fornication and adultery will be
   judged by God and they will not inherit the kingdom of
   God- Hebrew 13 Vs 4
4. Sex (between two single people) before marriage is
   fornication.
5. Sex between a single person and a married person or
   between two married people is adultery.
   
   SO WHY MUST I ABSTAIN FROM SEX UNTIL I AM
   MARRIED?
6. Premarital sex is Sin – Sex before marriage is sin as all
   the 5 points above depicts. And the wages of sin is
   death. And you cannot continue in sin and expect that
   God’s grace and blessings continue to abound in your
   life. Sin is perhaps the reason you are not where your
   mates are.
   Before you die physically, you first die spiritually and then
   see other things that sex before marriage will expose you
   to;
7. Risk of STD – STD is sexually transmitted disease.
   There are treatable and untreatable sexually transmitted
   diseases and you never can tell who carries it because
   STDs don’t show on the face.
   Now, if sin is a choice, righteousness is equally a choice. This also can be established from our text. God laid out two possibilities before the people - blessing and cursing, life and death. This is like saying "I present to you righteousness and sin". God did not stop there, he encouraged them to choose life. In other words he advised them to choose righteousness which will hive a harvest of life to them and their children. If it is beyond their scope, why would God ask them to choose? You can be like Joshua who chose that he was going to serve the lord with his family. You can also be like Daniel and his colleagues who chosen not to defile themselves with the King's meat.
