MBAPPE AND DI MARIA SHINE AS PSG WINS TROPHEE DES CHAMPIONS
PSG have started 2019/2020 with a win after coming from behind to defeat Rennes in the French Super Cup season opener.
Having defeated PSG in the final match of the 2018/2019 Coupe De France in April via Penalty shoot-out to set up this encounter with the French Champions, Rennes started on a high note again and looked set to run away as winners once again when Adrien Hunou scored a goal 13 minutes into the game.
The match rest of the first half was pretty silent for Rennes has PSG control the most of the game as they pressed on for an equalizer. But unfortunately for the French Champions, they couldn't make a goal out of the possession as several shots played by Mbappe couldn't yield any positive result and Cavani playing his effort wide.
The second half started with PSG controlling the game as they continued searching for a goal. Luck soon smiled on the in the 57th minute as they got an equalizing goal through the whizkid Kylian Mbappe. The goal was assisted by the newly signed winger Pablo Sarabia who seems to be adapting quite well to the new environment.
PSG soon made the complete comeback as substitute Angel Di Maria buried a free-kick into the net of Rennes Goalkeeper to make it 2-1 in favour of PSG. Sarabia also had a hand in the build up to this goal as he was the won who won the freekick that led to the goal.
With this victory today, PSG have now won the French Super Cup for the 7th consecutive time. Even though they are without Brazillian star forward Neymar as he misses out due to suspension.
PSG were really lucky to have had Juan Bernat complete the game after escaping receiving a red card for a two-footed lunging attack on James Siliki. He was rather shown a yellow card.
Sarabia really had a wonderful and impressive debut and Tuchel will be really pleased with the capture of the Spaniard.
Both teams will now be looking forward to the start of the Ligue 1 season with PSG taking on Nimes while Rennes travel down to battle Montpellier.
It is good to have the club football back!!!
