[ENG-SPN] Wonders of Madrid: the organ of the Almudena Cathedral / Maravillas de Madrid: el órgano de la catedral de la Almudena

We are not in that wonderful cathedral of Seville where the remains of Christopher Columbus rest and which deeply inspired the unfortunate writer and poet, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, one of his most beautiful and significant religious legends: Maese Pérez the Organist. But we are in the true heart of that Madrid devoted to its traditions, which feels true veneration for its patron saint, the Virgen de la Almudena and whose temple -designed according to that retrospective look at the architectural models of the past, returned to the fashion of good a taste for the reformer of Notre-Dame de Paris, Viollet-le-Duc- is a true wonder, among whose most outstanding details, the organ -that irreplaceable ambassador of the musical fantasy of the Universe- deserves a special mention. Even contemplated in silence, standing guard in the background while the libertine passage of time approaches the transcendent moments that will liberate the spirit of the successive Masters, who, like the soul of Pérez de Bécquer, remained eternally custodians, remaining lethargic inside of its immeasurable resonance box, it imposes, not only for its beauty, but also for its sovereign elegance.

Not surprisingly, German precision intervened in its creation, hand in hand with the organ builder Gerhard Grenzing and British phlegm in the design of the case, carried out by the architect Simon Platt, who, following le-Duc's example, chose the Gothic style, as a design, surely aware of that search for God in the heights, suggested by Goethe and followed by the unrepentant dreamers of perfection, who, deep down, were the medieval stonemasons who raised those true crown jewels, comparative and metaphorically speaking, they illuminated the darkness of the West from the dark night of the soul produced by the fall of the Roman Empire. To see it there, fitted perfectly between the columns and the vaults of the main transept, facing the sacrosanct of an apse always oriented towards the outgoing, towards the sunrise that every day brings us its unalterable lesson of eternal perseverance, it is to feel it as an invaluable piece of that wonderful Meccano of Sacred Geometry, where, far from the anodyne banality of the ordinary, it is the Spirit that allows itself to be seduced by what, each one feels it in his heart, is the greatness of the Unknowable.

No estamos en esa maravillosa catedral de Sevilla donde reposan los restos de Cristóbal Colón y que profundamente inspirara al desafortunado escritor y poeta, Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer, una de sus más hermosas y significativas leyendas religiosa: Maese Pérez el Organista. Pero estamos en el verdadero corazón de ese Madrid devoto por sus tradiciones, que siente verdadera veneración por su Patrona, la Virgen de la Almudena y cuyo templo -ideado conforme a esa mirada retrospectiva hacia los modelos arquitectónicos del pasado, devuelta a la moda del buen gusto por el reformador de Notre-Dame de París, Viollet-le-Duc- es una verdadera maravilla, entre cuyos detalles más sobresalientes, el órgano -ese insustituible embajador de la fantasía musical del Universo- merece una mención especial. Incluso contemplado en silencio, manteniéndose de retén en segundo plano mientras el paso libertino del tiempo acerca los momentos trascendentes que han de liberar el espíritu de los sucesivos Maeses, que como el alma del Pérez de Bécquer quedaron eternamente de custodios, permaneciendo aletargados en el interior de su inconmensurable caja de resonancia, impone, no sólo por su belleza, sino también por su soberana elegancia.

No en vano, en su creación intervino la precisión alemana, de la mano del organero Gerhard Grenzing y la flema británica en el diseño de la caja, llevada a cabo por el arquitecto Simon Platt, que siguiendo el ejemplo de le-Duc, eligió el estilo gótico, como diseño, seguramente consciente de esa búsqueda de Dios en las alturas, sugerida por Goethe y seguida por los impenitentes soñadores de la perfección, que en el fondo, fueron los canteros medievales que levantaron esas verdaderas joyas de la corona, comparativa y metafóricamente hablando, que iluminaron las tinieblas de Occidente de la noche oscura del alma producida por la caída del Imperio Romano. Verlo allí, encajado a la perfección entre las columnas y las bóvedas del crucero principal, de cara a la sacro-santa de un ábside orientado siempre hacia saliente, hacia la salida de un sol que cada día nos trae su inalterable lección de eterna perseverancia, es sentirlo como una pieza inestimable de ese maravilloso Mecano de Geometría Sacra, donde, lejos de la anodina banalidad de lo ordinario, es el Espíritu el que se deja seducir por aquello que, lo sienta como lo sienta cada uno en su corazón, es la grandeza de lo Incognoscible.
