We can get an approximate idea from the written testimonies that, for some good reason, providence has not wanted them to go through history without pain or glory, as in many other cases, which testify that their origins - that metaphorical Genesis, which according to Chesterton , must be the beginning of any self-respecting biography - they date back to the 11th century, when a humble church was built in order to house the relics of a dubious saint, named Juliana, from Byzantium - or whatever the splendid Eastern Roman Empire and today, the current Turkey - that over time, the happy settlement of the Christian monarchies and the powerful impulse provided by the thousands of pilgrims who preferred to follow the Coastal or Northern Way, towards Compostela, prospered , until becoming one of the four great Collegiate Churches of Cantabria.

But we know nothing of that magician of sculpture, of that Frankenstein or ancient Prometheus -in metaphorical homage to a woman, Mary Shelley, whose prodigious intellectuality well deserves the noble gift of a well-deserved memory- capable, with her no less metaphorical magic wand, the chisel, to move sensitivities, breathing life into a stone, apparently dead, based on a masterful grace: his own talent.

Podemos hacernos una idea aproximada, por los testimonios escritos que por alguna bondadosa razón, la providencia no ha querido que pasasen por la Historia sin pena ni gloria, como en muchos otros casos, que atestiguan que sus orígenes -ese metafórico Génesis, que según Chesterton, debe ser el comienzo de toda biografía que se precie- se remontan al siglo XI, cuando se levantó una humilde iglesia con el fin de acoger las reliquias de una dudosa santa, de nombre Juliana, procedentes de Bizancio -o lo que fuera el esplendoroso Imperio Romano de Oriente y hoy, la actual Turquía- que con el tiempo, el feliz asentamiento de las monarquías cristianas y el poderoso impulso proporcionado por los miles de peregrinos que preferían seguir por el Camino de la Costa o del Norte, hacia Compostela, prosperó, hasta convertirse en una de las cuatro grandes Colegiatas de Cantabria.

Pero nada sabemos de ese mago de la escultura, de ese Frankenstein o antiguo Prometeo -en metafórico homenaje a una mujer, Mary Shelley, cuya portentosa intelectualidad bien merece la noble dádiva de un merecido recuerdo- capaz, con su no menos metafórica varita mágica, el cincel, de conmover sensibilidades, insuflando vida a una piedra, aparentemente muerta, en base a una gracia magistral: su propio talento.
