Metamaterials

in #technology8 years ago

Hello Steemians,

I've been following 3D printing and new material developments for a while..

Today i came across with some fascinating news (at least for me...).

Scientist at Harvard SEAS are developing metamaterials, that can function in different ways, going back and forth autonomosly.

Can you imagine the possibilities, if you go at smaller scales?

Check out this video:

You can read the full article here : https://3dprint.com/162748/wyss-institute-metamaterials/
I've seen some similar developments here : - http://www.selfassemblylab.net/

It is not the same thing, but we are getting there, eheh can you imagine this in the future??
Also do you know nanotube technology? I've to write a post about this...

Peace!

interesting.

I remember vaguely a concept, I believe put forth by MIT, about how they imagined the future or nanorobotic self-assembling tools.

A bag of "grains" where you could, say, put a shovel into it, and the grains would pattern themselves on the shovels structure and you could then shake them out, and they'd have taken the form of a couple of shovels.

They also talked about a simple contained of "grains" capable of taking on the form of pre-defined objects.

Imagine that. instead of having a dozen of hard to store tools, you just have a big back of programmed sand, with the capacity to adapt the form, and material density, of whatever solid tool you needed.

The future is going to be amazing :)

Just like in dragonball bulma capsules ahah or terminator xD
