The Future of Mining/Foraging
Hello fellow Steemers:
This is my first post to the Steem community and it relates to something that I have been thinking about and researching for several months. I hope this post can serve as a useful forum of discussion around the future of mining/foraging for blockchain technologies.
It is very clear to me that in order for the underlying blockchain technology to have the profound impact on society many of us hope for, there is going to have to be major infrastructure built to support the distributed networks. I am glad to see a few mining projects bubbling to the surface with a focus on green and renewable power sources for mining activities. It is a good start, but just the beginning.
As we are in the early innings of digital currency adoption as well as governance models, I am constantly thinking about the following questions:
- What is the future of mining/foraging going to look like across the globe?
- How do we build infrastructure and design a model that allows these activities to be profitable, yet not allow transaction fees to be prohibitive?
- How can we decentralize mining/foraging activities, while ensuring a high level of security and consistent up time at scale?
- Do we need to build specialized hardware or software for such activities that will enhance the performance of the networks?
