The Portal series is short but is one of the best video game franchises in history. I love these games so much and that is why I am reviewing them right now. 

             The story for these games is very strange but also awesome. You are stuck in an underground lab with a horrifyingly humorous AI robot who wants to test you for science reasons of course. The Portal games are in the same universe as the Half Life games but we haven't seen too much of a cross over yet. There are very few characters in the portal games but that is what makes it all work. The few characters add so much hilarious characterization which really makes the game complete and highly enjoyable. 

             The gameplay and mechanics in the Portal games are innovative and creative. You play from a first person point of view and you use a gun to shoot portals. You shoot one portal on wall 1 and shoot another portal on wall 2. If you walk through the portal on wall 1 you will come out of the other portal on wall 2. This is a genius idea and it is implemented so well in these games. The puzzles using this mechanic are a little thought provoking sometimes but never too hard. They are extremely creative and you will probably have to think very differently in some cases because you just get stumped a lot. 

             Portal 1 is short but it does set the story for portal 2 and it is where we were first promised cake. Portal 2 is way more of a complete game than the first Portal. There is a complex story that will have you exploring the history of Aperture Science and laughing because everyone in this game is so dam funny. There are way more mechanics in Portal 2 like light bridges and redirecting laser beams. There is also a full fledged co-op campaign where you will rely on your friends to not be stupid idiots in order to solve puzzles.  

            The Portal games are some of my favorite games of all time so is my final review score of each:

Portal gets 9 promised pieces of cake out of 10 

Portal 2 scores 9.8 talking robot potatoes out of 10
