WOMEN OF NAIVETE BUT WITH DIGNITY

As I look at this photo taken during the turn over ceremony of one unit shredder and night crawlers for vermiculture at Sitio Pulahon, Barangay Hagpa, I was so touched seeing these women in their old age witnessing the said activity. They are the women of our tribe, very naive, still holding on to our customs and traditions as Higaonon. Though they lack the luxury of modern civilization yet you can see in their eyes the dignity that cloaked them, undefiled by sophistication.

Yes, I love seeing them lived a life of simplicity, of contentment with their respective ways. Most of us in the urban areas are exposed to technological advancement, which these women do not have, but they possess the peace of mind, the serenity of life and I envy them for this.

Here in our stead, our life is interwoven with the demands of time, with the complexity of our undertakings. We sleep late at night, we work, we strive as we hope to fulfill our unsatiated desires. Unlike these women, they can sit down together and talk about anything under the sun with no worries of a timetable awaiting; they can sleep as early as 7:00 in the evening slumbered by the warm embrace of nature. What a beautiful life really.
