PEACE AT CALVARY

There was perfect peace and harmony when God created man and put him in Garden of Eden. God came down in the cool of the day, and walked and talked with them. How happy they must have been!

The yielding of Adam and Eve to the temptation of Satan through the serpent brought a terrible change upon the earth and its inhabitants. Adam and Eve lost their sweet fellowship with God: sin became their master and they were driven away from the Garden. God placed a curse on the earth-thorns and thistle grew with the vegetations, and man began to suffer pain, and physical death because of disobedience.

Since the fall of man, the world has never known peace. Wickedness and evil began to multiply on the earth. The antediluvian world was destroyed because "the wickedness of man was was in the earth, and that every imagination of the thought of his heart was only evil continually" (Genesis 6:5). In our days, the wickedness and depravity of man are expressed in armed robbery, ritual, killings, kidnappings, assassinations, fraud and corruption, political conflict with its attendant tension, racism, terrorist, sexual perversion, just to mention a few.

The world is anxious searching for solutions to these problems. They are actually searching for peace, but unfortunately, the Prince of Peace has been factored out and relegated to the background. Many world bodies have been created in the search for peace but peace is elusive without the Prince of Peace.

Peace is impossible without calvary. God sent his son as a sacrificial offering to pay for man's sins. The death of christ on the cross at calvary is the means of reconciliation of sinful man to God. It brings to an end the enmity and estrangement which exist between God and mankind. Though the death of christ made provision for the restoration of peace to everyone, yet only those who repent of their sins and believe on the Lord Jesus christ will benefit from that provision. To be reconciled to God, sin must be dealt with and man must be transformed.

CONCLUSION
Man became a victim of sin and all associated troubles with the curse placed upon him at the fall in Eden. Sin and curse brought trouble to Adam's life, work, home and his eternal destiny. It brought distress of sickness, ill-favoured Labour and separation from God. The peace and joy that come from that relationship was also denied him. But thank God for calvary where the all inclusive sacrifice of Jesus vanquished the power of sin and curse. Jesus died on the cruel cross to restore peace to sin troubled soul and joy that comes with forgiveness of sin and restored relationship with God.

Through his cruel and sacrificial death, Jesus satisfied all conditions to totally remove all the painful troubles that sin brought to the soul, body, spirit, life and eternal destiny of man. All men can have this peace restored to their hearts and have peaceful relationship with God at salvation as they trust in the merit of the blood shed at calvary (Romans 5:1).
