WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM DISABLED PERSONS?

in #life8 years ago

No. We don't call them "Disabled" persons any more, but "PWD" or " Persons With Disablity."

I am always fascinated to see PWDs who are fighting with with life. Fighting in a sense,they did not give up living or I say they're still loving life. I don't know much of their struggles but when I try to work with one hand, I could somehow feel the hardship of having only one arm to work. Or when I try to walk closing my eyes, oh! how I admire the blind who can still smile on his way to church and sell "sampaguita" flowers for a living.

For such hardships; the Government recognizes their struggles thereby acknowledging their rights and giving them some privileges.

Here in our country; the government created a Council that will look for the interests of PWDs and it is called National Council on Disability Affairs:

Hence The Power and Functions of this Government Agency:

  1. Formulate policies and propose legislations concerning the rights and well being of disabled persons, and lead in the implementation of programs and services concerning the same;

  2. Conduct consultative meetings and prepare symposia with all stakeholders, and undertake program evaluation and monitoring to ensure that comprehensive, relevant and timely
    programs and services are adequate and accessible to persons with disabilities;

  3. Conduct researches and studies relevant to formulated policies to promote and enhance at all levels the rights of persons with disabilities;

  4. Establish, develop and maintain a data bank on disability in partnership with concerned government agencies and non-government organizations and strengthen the referral services
    to ensure availability of data to stakeholders and services to persons with disabilities including provision of assistive devices;

  5. Establish and maintain linkages and networking with local and international organizations, including organizations of and for persons with disabilities to generate resources and to
    maximum utilization of existing resources and for purposes of convergence;

  6. Serve as a national working body to promote and monitor implementation of national laws ad international commitments;

  7. Assist in the establishment of self-help organization and the setting up of specific projects through the provision of technical and financial assistance to draw out the active
    participation of persons with disabilities in the social and economic development of the country. (Section 31, RA 7277).

I am writing this article for the purpose of recognizing them and somehow learn from them...

Now, what can we learn from these Persons with Disability:

Although there are lots of Articles already written on what can we learn from PWDs, that can be found in the Internet, still I would like to share my thoughts on what can we learn from them.

Here are my thoughts on what can we learn from PWDs:

There are people who were not born disabled. They may have experience accidents or they may have acquired it through life. People like these, were not used to it. It's a sudden change of Physical being. They might have experienced trauma and depression because of such sudden change. But the mind or the brain can cope up with it if it was permitted by the person. So, whenever I see, such person who've acquired disability and keep on living and fighting for life's struggles and was able to cope up with it, I could say to myself, yes life must go on. Life must go on whenever there are struggles, if these people could have coped up with such disability how much more we that are complete and normal?

There are also PWDs that were in- born. They were born that way and for them, it was normal because that's what they were created. But the time they would compare themselves to others, they might fell incomplete and inadequate. But there are some of them who were able to do even beyond what the other normal persons could do.

Such as Jessica Cox - the Pilot with No Arms

Jessica Cox is a Filipino-American who was born without arms. She is now an FAA-Certified pilot and a motivational speaker. She can drive a car, type 20 words per minute, put on her make up, surf, a black-belter -- all without arms. She is a proud Filipino who likes "pansit" and dances "tinikling
. 'Yan ang Power ng Pinoy." The show airs in GMA Pinoy TV. Visit the website at www.powerngpinoy.tv.

Her story is very inspiring. Truly we can do what others can do or even surpass them, if we just have to try and be trained beyond obstacles.

PWDs have the tendency to loose their confidence. Because of their lose and incompleteness, they might have the tendency to compare themselves to others and somehow loose their confidence. But I've met some of them who still have self confidence and excel on what they do.

Here is a Friend of Mine who've lost one of his hands due to an accident, but still have the confidence to teaching people for livelihood.

Some of the humblest people I've known are the PWDs. They are so humble that they recognize the help of others. Yes they have the tendency to show to the world that they are normal. But to some of them who've learn to be humble enough and ask for an assistance get the best help. So be humble enough to accept our inadequacy and when we accept it, then help will come...

One of the most hopeless situations in life I've seen from the PWDs is the life of Nick Vujicic .

Born with no arms and legs , a very hopeless situation but turn out to be an inspiration. Nick was born with a very rare disorder called "tetra-amelia syndrome" which is characterized by the absence of Arms and Legs. As a child knowing his situation, thought of committing suicide, but when he accepted it begun to understand that God had a plan for him he then had hope to live as a normal person. God used his situation to be an encouragement for others, he then turned out to be a motivational/ inspirational Speaker especially to the Youth.

Here's is one of his Motivational speeches to the Youth:

What about you my friend? Have you learned something from these people? Can you add some more to the Lessons I've learned from our PWDs?

So, the next time we see such people, let's respect them. Let's love them or even help them in any way we can.

Than you for your time. God bless...!
