Some very interesting Christmas songs...
Yes, I know that Christmas is time to share, and that's why I bring this song, to share it, with the music playing, suddenly came this song that caught my attention, I didn't know it, I must say it's quite old, from the year 81...
A song quite representative of the singer Carlene Davis & Trinity
It's a rather shocking theme, it's a protest song, with lyrics that might even seem silly to many, but its profound message gives us a social critique, which is not part (unfortunately) only of a reality of the year 81 in Jamaica but of a large part of the world.
I liked the approach of a song through a question, which confronts a system, which is decades old, which is so immersed in society that I do not know if at some point it can be completely eliminated until it can live.
I leave you with a version of Chronixx... that is really great, with its unique style, an acoustic sound you shouldn't miss...

Santa Claus, do you ever wonder why we suffer so
Santa Claus, will you come to the ghetto
Santa Claus, we would like to see where your reindeers go.
All year long we've been beating down crime
How we hold on through those hard times
We aint gonna fight, we aint gonna fuss
But where are the presents that you brought for us.
Santa Claus, do you ever come to the ghetto
Santa Claus, do you ever wonder why we suffer so
Santa Claus, will you come to the ghetto
Santa Claus, we would like to see where your reindeers go.
We see you in the papers,
you're on TV giving the toys to some pickney
Wondering what's happening to poor people like we.
Is it because we no have no chimney?
Santa Claus, do you ever come to the ghetto
Santa Claus, do you ever wonder why we suffer so
Santa Claus, will you come to the ghetto
Santa Claus, we would like to see where your reindeers go.
We see you in the papers,
you're on TV giving the toys to some pickney
Wondering what's happening to poor people like we.
Is it because we no have no chimney?
Is because we nuh have big money
Santa Claus, do you ever come to the ghetto
Santa Claus, do you ever wonder why we suffer so
Santa Claus, will you come to the ghetto
Santa Claus, we would like to see where your reindeers go.
For Tommy Cowan, author of the song, his justification at the time for writing it was simply to raise his social concerns.
It's all about a crime-free Christmas, that guy's voice, Christopher Martin, is amazing. But the Chronnix song is going on for my extended family tomorrow, what a great one.
There are voices that transcend, really is very good. And not the rhythm is great.
My best wishes to you and your family @crypticat.
Gotta love the Chronixx Song! Real issues. But from we have life we can celebrate with or without the presents. Thanks for sharing some JAHMIN Xmas tunes.
Yeah, you could always spend Christmas without toys, new clothes.
But at some point in history someone wanted us to believe that this stuff was necessary to be in this season. I have no doubt that the important thing is to share as a family. The rest is incidental.
I hope you had a merry Christmas @dmilliz with your family.
