Busy Signal - Born And Grow

The composers of this song were Reanno Devon Gordon / Karim Damani Thompson.

The song has a metallic sound, it starts as a child's touch or something very different from what will be its development. Be sure to check out the end of this publication where I share some personal impressions of these lyrics.

Here's your lyrics in case you missed something to hear:

Some comments on the song:

This song is a recognition of renowned Jamaican figures, in which they can excel:

Shabba Ranks, whose real name is Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon, was born in Sturgetown, Saint Ann's Parish. He is a well known Jamaican dancehall artist. He was one of the first Jamaican deejays to gain worldwide acceptance and recognition.
** Dennis Brown
, Jamaican reggae musician and singer, considered by many as the successor of Bob Marley. He passed away in 1999.
**Bob Marley, I think this icon doesn't need much introduction.

And so he names a few more: DJ Karim, Sunshine, Collin Hines, Flatbush deh Big A, Mighty Mike...

He also highlights some characteristics of his native country:

Jamaica loose beach weh mi born & grow
Pretty girls pretty beach weh mi born & grow

It's also a social critic:

  • Times a get tough how mi born & grow
  • Earth a run red weh mi born & grow
  • Nuff bloodshed before mi born & grow

I could say that this next sentence is even philosophical:

I was born an raised, fi months an days... In difficult times you have to grow up very fast so as not to be crushed (literally) by reality.

Sounds like a chant, but I can see how it would grow on some who can relate

Yes, the sound of the beginning is very particular, it has nothing to do with what comes next. But it's a matter of style, always doing something new. It's the logical thing to do.
