Siesta Key, Florida (Tips & Pics)

A secluded setting, 99% powdery quartz sand, beautiful scenery & shallow waters are just some of the reasons why Siesta Key is one of my favorite beaches in Florida.

As an American, it's easy to overlook local destinations in favor of far off places. I had no interest in visiting Siesta Key because I'd thought it'd just be 'another beach'. Boy, was I wrong about that.

The sand is a powdery white, 99% pulverized quartz. That means that it feels like baby powder and is very gentle and it never gets hot. It could be 80F or 105F out with the sun beating down on you and the sand will be the same temperature.

At Siesta Key, you won't have to deal with running along the beach trying to find a towel to stand on or looking for shade while your feet burn. The quartz is easy on your feet.

There are a few parking areas. Some pay to park, some free. The beach is easy to find. Just park and walk down the path surrounded by local vegetation and within a couple minutes you'll be at the beach. If you can, look for PARKING AREA 7. It's a small lot with good access to a nice spot on the beach.

Siesta Key, which is very close to Sarasota, Florida, doesn't have much in the way of a beach town as some other ocean destinations do. There are a few bars and places to eat but other than houses & condominiums there's not much there. So, if you're visiting for an extended period you'll want to pack some groceries and cook at home OR.....visit Sarasota too!

Another thing about Siesta Key that is so cool is the storms. Being that it's on the Gulf Coast of Florida....when storms hit...they hit hard. And if you've got an inner storm chaser inside of you, there will be great opportunities to watch the storms from the beach or your hotel room.

As you wade into the ocean water you'll notice that it is a bit shallow...but don't let that fool you because the currents here do some interesting things. Like create these little sand dunes in-between the surf.....

If you've got the time I'd surely put Siesta Key on your bucket list. It's only 2 hours from Orlando if you're visiting Florida and doing the theme park thing. So, it'd be a 4 hour round trip or you could even just stay over for the night and check out this amazing beach.
