After reading and studying professor @imagen season 2 lesson on the topic: Initial Coin Offering (ICO) and Initial Exchange Offering. For far his lecture has educated me a lot, and that is the reason why I'm here to discussed my homework task on the following questions that was given by professor @imagen below:
- Explain in your own words what an ICO is
- Mention the differences between ICO (initial Coin Offering) and IEO (Initial Exchange Offering)
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of ICOs?
- List at least 1 ICO that is starting, is in development, or has ended. Explain the project of the development team and add information of interest. (Example: IOTA, Spectercoin, Ark)
Explain in your own words what an ICO is
ICO simply stands for Initial Coin Offering or Initial Public Coin Offering. ICO is a means of raising funds through cryptocurrency. IVO allow contributors to buy token for sale as a means of sending funds into the required address.
Mention the differences between ICO (initial Coin Offering) and IEO (Initial Exchange Offering)
It is sometimes hard to give the difference between ICO (initial Coin Offering) and IEO (Initial Exchange Offering) for the purpose of this homework lesson let's look at them in a simple form.
ICO is a public offer which anyone can participate, whereas IEO is only meant for members who has the exchange can participate in the purchase of token.
ICO is face with a problem of being neglected by third parties. Since it isn't monitored by any third parties it seem not to be trusted. Although ICO, can be launch by anyone as long as that person have a white paper to convince investors to invest funds into the company.
In ICO if you want to buy tokens, you have to follow a procedure before buying and storing the tokens for a given exchange. While IEO it is very easier for someone to buy a token. Instead of going through several steps like ICO.
Looking at IEO on the other hand, is a strong, if not entirely, different model. While both ICO and IEO share the similar rationales of Initial Public Offering (IPO). In an IEO, an exchange is an administrator.
In other to understand the difference between ICO and IEO it would be best for us to look at the both of them in a tabuler form for a better understanding.
| ICO | IEO |
|---|---|
| Higher risk | Lower risk |
| Is a public offer | mainly for members |
| Standard procedure is involves when buying token | Buying token is very easier |
| It isn't controlled by third parties | It is controlled by third parties |
What are the advantages and disadvantages of ICOs?
There are so many advantages and disadvantages of ICOs which are given below:
- It allow anyone to participate in buying token
- No KYC requirements
- Investors has access to buy new coin
- With ICO tokens are sold for a very cheap rate
Disadvantages
- It involves high risk when dealing with several companies
- Too many procedures is involves when buying token
- It lack controlled from third parties
List at least 1 ICO that is starting, is in development, or has ended. Explain the project of the development team and add information of interest. (Example: IOTA, Spectercoin, Ark)
