Si Una Vez
The queen of Tejano music!
If you aren't familiar with this beautiful, loving & humble soul, I suggest you start doing your homework my friends. She was divine and otherworldly.
She was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, on April 16, 1971. By age 10 she was mastering her vocal abilities as a lead singer in her families band (Selena Y Los Dinos). As time went by, some dubbed her the 'Mexican Madonna.'
Her father Abraham was a musician himself and instilled the beauty of music in his kids at an early age. He also managed and produced the family band.
As wonderful as her Spanish music is, Selena grew up speaking English, but thankfully her father made her sing in Spanish to build her vocabulary and to also have her build a common connection with the Latino community.
Selena blossomed into a magnificent performer. Marinating the world with her beauty and delicate yet velvety voice, making her lyrics extremely potent and persuasive.
She released many songs that topped the charts in her time.
Baila esta cumbia 1990
Como la flor 1992
No me queda mas 1994
Amor prohibido 1994
Si una vez 1994
Bidi bidi bom bom 1994
Fotos y recuerdos 1994
Dreaming of you 1995
That's just naming a few of her great songs.
Sadly, on March 31, 1995, she was shot and killed by Yolanda Saldivar. A tragic event & one that shook the nation. People shedding tears across the globe for what was a great loss to Mexico and to those that loved her.
Saldivar was a manager for Selena's boutiques. The family eventually found out that Saldivar was embezzling money.
Saldivar was charged with murder but pleaded not guilty, claiming it was an accident. She was found guilty either way and sentenced to life in prison.
I hope you all enjoy this song and proceed to listen to more of her music. If you take some time to watch some of her interviews you'll see her radiant smile and humble soul radiate to its fullest potential and how contagious her smiles are within that time span.
This is one of my favorite songs by la bella Selena and one that will keep her memory alive in me for years to come.
