Garlic and Onion

in #steemit7 years ago

Most of us know the home remedy of putting sliced onions in your socks before going to sleep would cure so many health problems , some even say it purifies the blood and improves circulation. Myself I am sure it might help kill some unwanted bacteria and fungus that grow on the feet, but not sure about the rest. At face value it will not hurt your health sleeping with onions in your socks, but it might hurt your social life.

There is an asian saying that goes somewhat like this " If you sleep between garlic and onion you won't wake up smelling fresh " , this is not an exact translation but close.

Since the beginning of Steem the project and Steemit the social media website, everyone with their own way set out to fix the reward-pool, each with his own understanding of how rewards should be distributed. ( Consensus on reward pool distribution )

Yet the elusive fix never came, because what everyone failed to realise is that his version of a fix is really nothing like any other version. To code any fix and try it, would need months of testing to get results. We never gave any adjustment enough time to see results, and every adjustment came with more than one variable changed, most were quickly changed by community demand before any result could be realised.

The last change with fork 19, got the longest test period, but as with other changes, this one quickly gave way to the increasing effect of delegation, and delegation was introduced in an earlier fork but took the lead over any other change due to it being heavily utilized. I bet by now most of us do not remember what other changes came with fork 19 regarding the reward pool. How can we as a community reach a consensus on the reward pool, we simply will not.

Obviously with fork 20, more reward pool changes are coming. Will fork 20 fix the reward pool?

No, because the reward pool was never broken, each and every time it worked exactly as it was coded.

What was broken is our consensus on how the reward pool should work. And sadly that will always be broken.

The reward pool has become our block size debate compared to bitcoin. I have always seen the reward pool as a self fixing / self healing process. A process that can only be improved by putting all our focus on other priorities like communities and SMTs ...

Of course fork 20 is not all about the reward pool, it has a load of other improvements, but I am sure most will not even care about those, because the focus as usual will remain the reward pool. The most important changes in fork 20 are the performance improvements, these are the only changes I am looking for at the moment, insuring that anyone even backup witnesses can keep a node running without having to utilize much more resources.

Happy New Year

Don't underestimate the power of bio garlic and onions, Joseph. They are super healthy. I swear, they help in many cases... but I never tried to put them in my socks :-D

Thanks for the update with the fork and I look forward to the SMTs!! Very excited about that!

I can see this discussion is everywhere on steemit - and it is good that it is. It is good that we have the possibility to adapt without the need to worry about the nature of the whole thing in total.

I'm for any and all changes that will help Steemit grow. I already notice the platform is more stable. Not too long ago I had to save a copy of each comment before sending it due to fear of losing it. That is no longer the case for me. My follower count is rising along with my confidence that 2018 will be a banner year for Steemit!

You are most certainly right that we will most likely never all agree on what should be done with the reward pool. Even though I am a relatively new user and some people that have been here longer may disregard my opinion - I feel a lot of what goes on here is fair. Yes some changes will be made with Fork 20 but something is obviously working for Steem to continue to show success with more users and price.

People that sincerely put out good content and ACTUALLY engage with users are awarded as follows. To be fair I am also looking forward to performance improvements for Fork 20 too.

Also for the record I've never heard of that onion trick lol!

The healing effect of garlic
Against infectious diseases
Garlic helps, according to the various literature, Staphylococci, Streptococci and Brucella. In 1858, Mr. Louis Pasteur noticed, after he had put garlic in a Petri dish, that the surrounding bacteria were destroyed. The antibacterial effect is mainly due to Allicine. Allicin reacts with various enzymes of bacteria that become limited or ineffective. The proof that garlic can be used effectively in the human body because of this characteristic is unfortunately limited. The gastric ulcer causing bacterium Helicobacter pylori is destroyed in the test tube by garlic, but research in humans shows that garlic is not or barely able to do this in the stomach.

Good for our hearts
The use of garlic is often associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease. Several studies suggest that garlic can contribute to a normalization of plasma lipids and a reduction in blood pressure, blood glucose and blood clotting. Garlic would inhibit blood clotting and dissolve blood clots, would act as a blood-thinning and vasodilator, as would blood pressure and cholesterol-lowering.

But recent studies and analyzes show that garlic may have only a very limited hypolipemic (drop in fat content) effect that, moreover, does not appear to be constant and lasting. And there would also be insufficient evidence for a blood pressure lowering effect of garlic in humans. Perhaps diabetics can benefit from the antioxidant action of specific components of garlic that can help reduce oxidative stress, and consequently also the chronic complications of diabetes. The antioxidant activity of certain sulfur compounds in garlic may also have a positive effect on the oxidation of LDL lipoproteins and on the health of the endothelial cells.

Works against cancer?
At the end of November 2007, a report was published by the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) known as "Food, nutrition, physical activity and the prevention of cancer: a global perspective". This report indicated that a higher intake of garlic has a probably reduced risk of colon cancer. Animal research shows that the anticarcinogenic effects may be due to some sulfur compounds. Allyl sulfides could prevent the formation of colonic tumors as well as their cell growth.

Criticism of research on garlic
The criticism that constantly comes back to the different studies on garlic is that most studies have shown inaccuracies. The method chosen is often doubtful, the research periods and research populations often differ and different types of garlic are used, the composition of which is not always clear. And all this makes it difficult to compare the results and to make interpretations about the possible active substances in garlic. To be able to make more substantiated recommendations, more well-designed clinical research is needed. In addition, many studies on garlic have only been tested on animals and not on sufficiently large groups of people.

Side effects of garlic
There are people who can get upset stomach from eating a lot of garlic (which is a lot different from person to person) but it can also cause damage to the red blood cells, damage the intestinal flora, inhibit the absorption of nutrients in the intestines and reduce liver function, and there are more innocent side effects such as a specific breath odor and sometimes even a certain body odor: nausea, flatulence and heartburn can also be side effects of eating garlic, and there are also people who are allergic to eating. of garlic.

Conclusion
There are therefore indications for small positive effects of garlic on health. In addition, garlic, such as other aromatic herbs and spices, can probably also add some antioxidants and other bioactive substances that can contribute to good health. Possibly this contribution is somewhat limited because we also use only small amounts of garlic from meals. All in all, there is still too little solid scientific evidence for the time being. On the other hand it does not work out, it does not harm. And in addition, many people find garlic a delicious seasoning.

like and thanks Jesus Christ

When is fork 20 happening? any info on it or a link maybe? A nice read joseph, I'm not caught up in how the reward pool really works, but I have seen the posts between the Whale wars where there are big disagreements on how the reward pool is distributed.

Thanks Joseph, I agree, everyone is thinking what will be best for him. Kind of like pulling the blanket on themselves. I think the most important thing is the new users and their experience on the platform.

One disadvantage I see right now is the abuse of power from users with a lot of Steem, who take on themselves the right to judge others. Kind of like admins in Facebook who do the sensorship, but even more biased.

Whole at the same time a lot of others like @jerrybanfield, who actively advertises Steemit and helps it grow.

Good post
I really like greetings from me @sulaidasilva
