The guardian of god

The word "spirit" means in Hebrew: breath, breath, air, wind. The Holy Spirit is the "breath of God", the "breath of God", the "divine spirit".

Like the Father and the Son, the Holy Spirit has always existed, and God is like them and with them. One God in three persons, as proclaimed by the Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. In the Bible we read.

"In the beginning God created heaven and earth. The earth was somewhat shapeless and empty, the darkness covered the abyss, and the breath of God flapped on the waters "(Genesis 1, 1-2).

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is also the one who makes Jesus exist in Mary's womb, and from the first moment of his virginal conception, he lives in him. The angel Gabriel said it clearly in the episode of the Annunciation that St. Luke relates in his Gospel:

"The Holy Spirit will come upon you and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore he who is to be born will be holy and will be called Son of God "(Luke 1:35).

The Gospels tell us that on many occasions Jesus spoke to his disciples of the Holy Spirit, and he announced his coming as a great event:

"The Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you ... When he comes, the Spirit of truth, will guide you to the full truth; for he will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and he will announce to them what is to come. he will give me glory, because he will receive what is mine and will announce it to you ... he will give testimony of me. But you also will give testimony "(John 14, 26; 16, 13-14; 15, 26b.27).

As he promised his disciples, Jesus made the Church the gift of the Spirit. At the moment of his death, Jesus "surrenders" his spirit to God, and God communicates it to the Church. This is the meaning of the words of the Gospel of Saint John, announcing the death of Jesus: "Jesus said: 'Everything is fulfilled.' And bowing his head he gave up the spirit "(John 19, 30).

THE HOLY SPIRIT AND ITS ACTION IN US

As it happened to the apostles, we receive the Holy Spirit for the first time in Baptism, and in a special way in Confirmation, and we become his temples, as Saint Paul says. The Holy Spirit remains in us while we are in grace, that is, as long as we do not have serious sin.

With his presence, the Holy Spirit communicates his GIFTS and charisms, which allow us to

participate actively in the construction of the Church, family of God. These gifts of the Holy Spirit are: wisdom, understanding, science, counsel, strength, piety, and fear of God. We all have them to a greater or lesser degree, and we can increase them by asking them insistently in prayer. Remember the words of Jesus in the Gospel of Saint Luke:

"If then you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke 11:13).

When we become aware of the presence of the Spirit of God in us, and let him act as he knows how to do it, that presence of his produces a series of FRUITS that are clearly manifested in our way of being and acting, and others can perceive them. The fruits of the Holy Spirit are: "Love, joy, peace, patience, affability, kindness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control ..." (Galatians 5:22).

The Holy Spirit is the greatest gift that God can give us, because he is himself, his living and active presence in each one of us, and in the Church, his family, community of salvation and eternal life.

The Holy Spirit:

  • It reminds us of the teachings of Jesus and encourages us to put them into practice in our daily lives.

  • It puts us in intimate communication with God towards whom all our actions should be directed.

  • it helps us believe and wait, even in the most difficult moments.

  • it teaches us to love and to forgive from the heart, to tolerate and to understand, to serve and to share.

  • put in our mouth the appropriate words to speak of God to our brothers.

  • makes us builders of peace in justice.

  • It fills us with his kindness and his love.

THE HOLY SPIRIT CONFIGURES US AS TRUE MISSIONARIES OF JESUS, BUILDERS OF HIS KINGDOM

The book of Acts tells us that after his resurrection, Jesus, in his last appearance to the disciples, told them:

"You will receive the strength of the Holy Spirit, who will come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1, 8).

On the day of Pentecost the promise of Jesus was fulfilled. The Holy Spirit descended on the apostles gathered in the place where the Passover Dinner was held, filled them with light and strength, and they, leaving aside the fear that had previously dominated them, launched into the great adventure to announce everywhere, with his words and with his life, his Resurrected Master. The same book of Acts tells us, in great detail, the great wonders that the Spirit performed in them and for them, and how in a short time, was already numerous the group of those who believed in Jesus and were baptized in his name .

The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the risen Jesus, made the apostles and makes us today, missionaries, that is, messengers of Jesus, charged with announcing it, making it known, exposing his message of love, justice and truth, here and there, and to the ends of the world; to make it present in the environment in which each one of us develops.

To carry out this task, the Spirit communicates his gifts and graces to us, and makes us men and women new, more faithful, more capable, more generous, more determined, more risky ... Men and women with a single objective, with only one Mission: shout everywhere, with our words and with our life.

  • that God is our Father, the Father of all the men and women of the world, without distinction of race, class or social condition; without exclusion of ages, nor of cultures, nor of customs.

  • who loves us with an immense love that surpasses everything, so much that he gave us his Son Jesus as Savior.

  • and that wants us all to be happy and have Eternal Life.
