The Experience Of Shopping In Bigger Markets: A Different Level Of Satisfaction?

in Project HOPE3 years ago

I had an opportunity of visiting a mixed market, segemented into fractions of diverse product and servicing and spans into a crazy distance of which might take close to four days non-stop if you want to cover the entire market on foot and it was a virtually exhausting but educative experience. The reason was because I was tired of shopping in smaller market with less competitiveness.

In a bid to make money a lot of ventures have gone Into making fake products, completely copying what the original product would look like and this is how would be easier for them to sell in a smaller market because there wouldn't really things like "product check for quality", a lot of customers have the ability to see through fake product and of course selling fake products in a mixed segemented market would put you out of business since there's competition for customers amongst the product owners.

The Price Factor

Price is something else that makes people go to big markets; truth is, the biggest markets in lagos are in the islands and this place is quite a distance considering the accessibilty, the endless traffic, bad road, the hurdles of transportation and movement. If there was easier accessibilty to the big mrket by the end consumer it would force the retailers to sell at a reasonable rate.

The retailers in where I live are typical examples of what you'll call "cut-throats". Because of their insane greed they want to take maximum profits at the expense of the end consumer because of the difficulties involved with acessing the direct manufacturer or the wholesalers at large. As an end consumer, exploitation is one of the reasons why a consumer would seek the manufacturer, else following the proper chain should seem even more easier.

The Problem Of Choice.

One thing i've realised is that retailers buys from the manufacturer or wholesalers according to popular demands this makes it difficult for them to satiate every consumer that comes their way. But then the reasons they're called retailers is because of how selective they tend to buy in small quantity and also another issue is that of finance.

Selling in bulks helps a wholesalers achieve economics of scale unlike a retailer that would usually sell per unit making it essential to profit on each and every unit of product they sell. When I went directly to the wholesalers I was spoilt for choices, I literarily had to change my mind on my initial choices because I was exposed to even better choices and this is what eventually happens.

The "Money" Opportunity

When people gets the opportunity to have a sizeable sum of money, of course they want to buy in bulk, this helps them save better, this reduces frequenting retailers on a daily basis. It reduces expensis and helps them plan their finances quite well, either on a daily, weekly, monthly or per annum.

People unlock their retail Instincts because of having the "right money". The right money comes with the right purpose and buying in bulk helps people escape the exploitations of the retailers. While i went to that market, I specifically shopped very big and spend the kind of money I haven't because the opportunity to have that money and having the right place means i'll be benefitting of which I actually did.

Conclusion

Its eventful to have a market experience; it was a place I had not been before, it was difficult making decisions. It was the busiest place i have ever been to, there are quite big markets in lagos and I had been to a lot of places but this one was big. I realised that money has limits this is because the striving of people to satiates their desires and need is what actually births commerce.

It was a market that trillions of naira couldn't even acquire. While I needed to buy in bulk, the issue of quality also comes in play but because I relatively wants to spend less while buying more quality it means I have more motive and this will eventually drive my purpose. People would come to the market with these diverse motive and this is what eventually drives Competition. At the end I was satisfied to the fullest.

Nigerian market and it's dynamics. While it can be fun and interesting, you have to be very careful. Nice story

Thanks for reading, the market can be really dynamic

The experience you tell reminds me of a television program about a report on the large markets in China. They were huge in size so much that I needed a vehicle to be able to travel them.
In the town where I live there are not such large markets but there is an impressive variety of prices for dozens and quantities in mass.
In these cases it is very important to visit the site several times to get an idea of the prices and to be able to make the right choice.
