The secret SpaceX project

Souce

If we talk about rockets, today SpaceX comes to mind, instead of just transporting equipment to orbit SpaceX wants to transform space into a gigantic industrial park, and now regulatory documents revealed that it is already taking an important step in that direction. The United States Federal Aviation Administration approved reentry tests for a new capsule called Starfall. Although the company is keeping much of the details under wraps, records show that the vehicle was designed for a specific mission: making products in space and bringing them back to Earth.

The authorized tests provide for the launch of the capsules aboard the Falcon 9 or Starship rockets. After completing their missions in orbit, the vehicles will return to the Pacific Ocean, where they will be recovered by SpaceX's own vessels. The documents reveal some interesting characteristics. The capsule is about 3 m in diameter, weighs just over 2 tons and was designed to return with approximately one ton of payload.

During the descent it uses attitude control thrusters for orientation, a heat shield to withstand the heat of atmospheric reentry and a system of multiple parachutes to reduce speed before splashdown, but the most interesting thing is not the capsule itself, it is what it can transport, in orbit the absence of gravity creates conditions impossible to reproduce on Earth, certain crystals grow with greater purity, optical fibers can present superior properties and extremely delicate chemical processes can occur without the interference caused by gravity.

For years, scientists investigated how to take advantage of this unique environment, the problem was always the cost, Starfall seems to have been created precisely to solve that equation, instead of treating space manufacturing as an isolated scientific experiment, SpaceX aims to transform it into a commercial service. The idea is to offer transportation, permanence in orbit for automated industrial processes and safe return of finished cargo.

This gains even more importance in the future of the international space station, with the aging of the ISS and the transition to private commercial platforms, companies are already beginning to dispute who will control the next generation of orbital infrastructure. The Starfall project reveals something bigger than just a reentry capsule, it shows that the next space race may not just be about more powerful rockets or more distant missions. The real dispute may be over control of the future factories that will operate above our heads.
