People that complain about Bitcoin's energy usage need to compare it to what it's trying to replace...

If you have a heartbeat, you have likely heard the narrative against bitcoin and crypto about how they use too much energy.

First it was that they use too much dirty energy, but now that bitcoin etc are switching to more renewable sources, the claim has shifted to bitcoin using too much energy for what it does, period.

Well, what it does is the whole idea...

If you compare bitcoin's carbon footprint as well as its energy usage to the entire monetary system that current exists, it's a faction of the legacy system.

Literally a fraction.

The Russian MP and Energy Committee Chair even admitted as much, saying bitcoin is more effecient than fiat money...

Normally I don't put much stock into things coming out of Russia, but he's someone that would know and has no reason to support bitcoin and yet that's what he said...

So, while the calls for banning bitcoin mining continue to get louder and louder by the mainstream media and regulators, make sure they realize what they are comparing it to.

Bitcoin does use a lot of energy, there's no debating that, but if we switched over to the bitcoin standard, we would actually end up saving a tremendous amount of energy and significantly reducing our carbon footprint.
